macOS Sierra PB: Need testers for new AMD Radeon drivers!

Status
Not open for further replies.
PSA Warning! For all RX 470-480 users enjoying the CU limit fix make sure to make extra copies of the RadeonX4100 and store them for the upgrade to Sierra 12.4.

Are you sure? I'm on PB7 and it still seems to work there (135 k on Geekbench)?? Should I make backups before updating to PB8??

UPDATE: just installed PB8, geek bench result still around 130k..

psst. Open the 4100 kext from 10.12.4 PB-8 in your hex editor and go trolling for Ellesmere.

That could be because these are brand new hardware listings (as opposed to rebadged hardware ~ RX 560, RX 570, RX 580), while Polaris 10 and Polaris 11 have been around for a while and are already in the Linux Kernel. Actually, Polaris 12 driver code was being put into the kernel starting back at the end of last year:

Unless maybe they are combining the refresh RX 500 series under P12. They mentioned the combining of the P10-11and not really adding anything new for 12. This sounds much like what we have, there is mention of P12 but no major data blocks like Baffin, Ellesmere, Fiji, Tonga, etc.. The original P 12 was thought to be just the Polaris 11 Baffin dual card or refresh series. There is also speculation of Polaris 20, 21 etc.. for the refresh, but speculation is just that. When AMD releases them we will know for certain.

BTW, I think we found the P 12 first!

The next couple of weeks are going to be annoying! :)

The speculation is fun and annoying. I have read in various places the newly expected RX-560 is supposed to be the 1024 stream unlocked RX-460 with a slight clock speed increase and still under the 75 watt threshold. For $100. Hmm. (If it sounds too good to be true ...) :)

"If it sounds to good to be true, it's AMD, lol!

This Ryzen thing really sucked the vega out of AMD. There gonna throw out the tidbits and refri's before the grand illusion VEGA. Let's hope it's at least 1080 worthy -15% for igpu requirement = 1070? Can you tell I'm a little frustrated with the continuous stalling of the release of this elusive Vega?

If I could, I'd happily build a Ryzen Hack. I really resent every penny I give to Intel. The only disappointment really was gaming and zero overclock headroom. I don't game but that should improve once Microsoft release the SMT fix.

Skylake does not support dual RX cards, you get black screen.
I had not heard this. Maybe that's why I can't get the second card working.
