Final Mountain Lion 10.8.3 build runs smooth and will eventually be overclocked. Built a system 4 yrs ago on an I5-750 and am amazed at how much easier it is now, thanks to the guides provided on this site, and to the improved compatibility of products.
Didn't have access to a Mac so purchased Snow Leopard and followed guide here:
iBoot + MultiBeast: Install Mac OS X on any Intel-based PC
First time through I was building on the GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD3H which was fine except for some pesky audio and USB 3.0 issues. I used the IBoot Ivy Bridge 1.1.0 and removed my GTX 660 to let the system boot the internal Intel 4000 graphics. I used the EasyBeast method the first time. After some experimentation to get the drive to boot, I realized that PCIRootUID=0 needed to be selected for my system. The TL-WDN4800 wifi PCIe card works OOB, but note that you have to set your router 5Ghz ch to less than 64 for this card to pick it up.
Note that once Snow Leopard was installed, I had to update the Apple Software Updater from the original Snow Leopard purchase to get everything working and get the Mountain Lion download. By the way, I suggest that you want to disable the automatic updates from Apple - review them carefully before installing.
My goal here was just getting my system to run enough to download Mountain Lion and then do a fresh install using the following guide: UniBeast: Install OS X Mountain Lion on Any Supported Intel-based PC
This is where, after doing much reading in the forums, I decided to return my GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD3H and replaced it with a GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H to avoid audio and USB issues. With the UD5H and the GTX660 and 10.8.3, once you have the Bootable ML USB Drive Using UniBeast prepared, it is easy to create a new installation. With USB boot in hand, I turned off the system, re-installed my GTX 660, changed the bios to boot first from PEG under Periphials/Init Display First, and booted to my USB stick. You need to use the code GraphicsEnabler=No and select the USB to install Mountain Lion.
Using MultiBeast 5.3, I chose the DSDT free method and selected ALC898 audio, both the Atheros and the AppleIntel ethernets, 3rd party SATA and 3rd Party eSata to enable the Marvell 88SE912s, and GraphicsEnabler=No and PCI Root ID Fix under Boot Options. Note that I then tweaked the PCI Root ID in org.chameleon.Boot.plist to change the value to PCIRootUID=0 from PCIRootUID=1.
All works very smoothly, including sound and my Planar IPS looks better than ever after Mac calibration.
