Laptop Compatibility

10th gen Ice Lake CPUs have never been used in any Macbook model yet so no idea if they would work. They are built on the new 10nm process not 14nm which means a completely new chipset. They will have Intel Wifi 6, USB 4 and integrated Thunderbolt. Way too early to try and hackintosh one. Don't think it would work. We still don't know till October whether Catalina will allow 3rd party kexts to load. That is no minor obstacle. Open Core bootloader will need to be used and that is still a work in progress. It's going to take some patience on your part.

So if I want quick support I should go for comet lake as the architecture is still the same right? Don’t want to go for last gen cpu‘s If I invest about a thousand bucks.

I am torn between the Dell Inspiron 14 7490 (10th gen Comet Lake) and the Lenovo Yoga S740 (10th gen Ice Lake). Both are around 1100€ for the i7, 16GB Ram, MX250 and 512GB SSD.

Intel HD 605 graphics are not supported. If you did get it to work it would only have 4-7mb default drivers and many applications would not run on that. Supported graphics have between 1000-2000mb of support.

ok thanks so no worth to try. Might anyone know another tested passively cooled laptops running fine osx? Probably on some Core M type CPUs.

After some readings i found Xiaomi Mi air 12 inch compatible, which is passively cooled, but caveats for me his ram only 4gb. Still thinking to try it out.

Lenovo Ideapad S340-14iwl is compatible.
UHD620, Whisy Lake...but coffee lake spoofing(device id : 3EA58086, ig-Platform-ID : 3EA50009)
No need DVMT patch and No need Battery DSDT patch.

I refered to this guide :
Does everything work? I have the i3 model

Almost all things are Okey, but HDMI output is not.
I can't find the problem yet. All guides for framebuffer patching are ineffective.
I use ig-platform-ID : 3EA50004. In this case, you should modify flag 0x00000498 to 0x00000098. This prevent LCD black screen.
But I don't know differences between 3EA50004 and 3EA50009. :banghead:

Hi all

I need your insight.
I am considering buying the ASUS ZenBook 14 UX410UA-GV410T.

Main specs:
Model ASUS ZenBook 14 UX410UA-GV410T
CPU Intel Core i7-8550U 4 GHz
Cores 1
RAM 8 GB
Max RAM 16 GB (1 extra slot)
SSD 256 GB
Other drive 1 extra 2.5“ slot
Drives interface Serial ATA
Screen 14“
Screen resolution 1920x1080
Graphics chipset Intel UHD Graphics 620
Graphics memory Shared
Connections Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
Type of technology WIFI 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.2 (Dual band) 2*2,
HDMI ports 1
USB 2.0 ports 2
USB 3.0 ports 1
USB 3.1 ports 1
SD / SDHC reader 1
RJ45 0

It has exactly the specs I need and that I don’t find among the MacBooks:
  • RAM is expandable to 16 GB (some people say to 24).
  • It has an extra slot for a 2.5“ drive.
  • It has an SD card reader.
  • It’s rather affordable: €839.
  • It has excellent reviews.
  • Its few shortcomings are unimportant to me.
I could keep the native SSD for Windows and install OS X on the other one.
I never use WiFi (I keep my home in airport mode) so I don’t really care if WiFi doesn’t work with Mac OS. Yet it would be useful.
For LAN purposes I could use something like a Cable Matters USB C Multiport Adapter (USB C Hub with DisplayPort 8K), 2X USB 2.0, Fast Ethernet or an equivalent.
It has no discreet GPU.
My monitor is a QHD so if I need to connect this laptop to it I would need to use the DP connection.
There are USB-C to DP or I could use the adapter. Is there a chance it would work?

Is it much more complicated to install on a laptop than on a desktop? I am not very savvy this computer technology. I read that Sierra and High Sierra can be problematic so would it be safer to install Mavericks?
If I fail I could use it under Windows anyway.

TIA
Regards
Nick
