Intermittent freezing on 10.12.6 - 7700k / Maximus IX Hero / GTX 1080

Yes, DP 1.2 is a must! My system did not like any other.

Here's my challenge though, I have 2 monitors, the other one is older and doesn't have 1.2, so do I run both at 1.1, or the newer one at 1.2 and the older 1.1 (mixed)

What can it hurt to try running mixed?

Well, she finally froze again. Exact same thing, could still move the mouse, but couldn't click on anything. This time it didn't auto recover. Captured this:

Send it to nVidia - maybe they've got an answer...

More searching on that yields a "failing GPU." Hmmm...

Have you tried just using Apple's built-in nVidia driver instead of the web driver and see if that happens?

Another few thoughts...

1. Remove, clean out, and reinstall the web drivers;
2. Check/repair drive permissions;
3. Do you have a standard SSD you could clone to? Perhaps it may be 'drive' related?

I don't think that's possible with Pascal (GTX 1080) If it is let me know.

Other than running First Aid in Disk Utility, I believe Repair Permissions was removed from Sierra

What happens when you click the nVidia icon in the system bar, and choose OS X Default Graphics Driver?

You go into a VESA, no graphics acceleration mode. It's pretty much unusable.
