Just like before, says it can't find the kernel. Adding kernel did not help.

This is the guide I followed, BTW. The only thing I can think of is maybe I have to do something different for Yosemite? But I don't get why it still wouldn't work via USB.

I don't know why it is showing can't find kernel (Not always). Better you post this question on that thread.

Done, though I managed to score a 960 GB SSD at a good price on eBay from a very nice gentleman. It will fix this, be faster and make it easier to maintain in the future.
