Newer one: 168c:0036.. AR9565.

You could try device-id inject via DSDT patch in ProBook Installer v6.1. Follow the instructions in the guide for remaking your DSDT and select the AR9285 patch in addition to the others you originally used (depending on your hardware). That is, unless you already tried that and it didn't work.

If it does work, then great... If not, then go back to your original DSDT (or regenerate via ProBook Installer)... and then look for a replacement card. See FAQ for links/model#s and other information.

Hello!
I have successfully installed 10.8.4 on my new Probook 4740s. Thank you for such a great forum!
I have one single hdd installed split into 6 partition guid : one for win7, one for ntfs, one for mac osx and another 3 hfs+. Win 7 was installed first and is the active partition.
I have installed chimera on my ML partition and easy bcd on win - in bcd I have selected win 7 and the ML mac partition - at restart it enters correctly in win 7, but when i choose mac the boot loader is showing the latest partition, and not the one which has ML installed - the same things happens when I insert the bootable stick - during startup, if I choose mac at the easy bcd dialog, it automatically chooses the untitled 2 partition of the stick, and not the bootable one. If i press f8 for booting options it reverts to initial screen.
I am stucked with bootloader process - the only way to enter the ML partition is to boot with the stick and choose it as a bootable option, then choose the ML partition to boot from.
Also, before the easy BCD screen appears, there are few milliseconds when I get the boot0 error.

What can I do in this situation ? How could I set Chimera so that after the easy bcd dialog it shows my ML partition instead of the latest one created, both from hdd and stick ?

Also, how could I have a working wireless ? Should I replace the stock pci-e with another one ?

Sounds like you don't yet have Chimera installed properly due to a 4k HDD. See: http://www.tonymacx86.com/25-boot0-error-official-guide.html. Booting directly into Windows bootloader when it was installed previously instead of seeing Chimera is another incarnation of the boot0 error.

Also, you might take a look at my multi-boot blog article (link in signature).

And when you do get Chimera installed, make sure you 'press a key' where it says 'Press any key' otherwise it boots the default partition after a short timeout.

As for WiFi, if it is not compatible with OS X, you replace it. See the FAQ for info/links.

Hi to all
Thanks for all of your work that you've made for us

I want to share with some information about my experience.
Tried to install os x on 4740s(base modification with i3 2370m B6M17EA) in winter but without good result - screen works only 1024x768, video card doesn't work correctly. So remove hdd and in spring updated my pc and build custom mac.

Used win 7 all this months on hp.

New cycle began after upgrading cpu to i7-3612qm, which I set up 2 days ago.

And today I've successfully installed OS X 10.8.4 on updated my 4740s.

Everything became even better then I've expected, have to set only one additional kext on for my wifi at9285, because probook installer 9285patch found card but doesn't help see networks. For fixing found patch AtherosWiFiInjector from http://www.osx86.net, after relaunch found my network.

What seems to be working that I've checked right now:
- screen 1600x900, light changing in wide range
- touchpad
- keyboard, even functional buttons - found light changing, sound changing(not the same as at win but working)
- hdmi out! - additional display LG FullHD resolution, it's really useful for me to share picture for 2 monitors
- hdmi sound (but without changing audio volume)
- all usb out
- camera and mic - test it in Skype(But not Facetime - only on led indicator)
- cardreader
- ethernet Realtek RTL8168E-VL
- wifi AR9285 after additional fix
- battery status - shows mAh, timing percentage
- HW monitor - for CPU by every core, HDD, powers level
- cooler control and rpm status (really low rpm at idle - less 2000 rpm, cpu 50C)
- 2 touches on touchpad - can scroll using 2 fingers
- CPU multipliers - work fine as I see, also power management and cooler seems better then in win 7. Right now time indicator shows near 3:30-4 hrs of working from battery, in win 7- less then 3. Also temperature less in ML - near 50-60 C.
Screen Shot 2013-09-04 at 11.13.43 PM.jpg
Don't make any dsdt - just used probook intaller, thanks all developers who take part in those app.
Applied only one kext in addition - as I mentioned for wifi.

Some of already found issues
- doesn't go sleep. After switching sleep mode - shutdown for 1-3 sec, and switches on again, with black screen, which became working(full light) after pressing some button.
- vga out

Have some question
1. should I write correct smsbios file and set ddr, serial number?
2. Some ideas how to fix sleeping? I see option in probook installer but don't want to choose update without advices and knowing how to restore...
3. (Fixed in prefernces of touchpad)Is it bug or feature I can't use one touch gesture as left click? It was a feature=)

PS ML works really fast(maybe because it's clean) in comparing with Win 7, also difference in geekbench near 45% - 9700 in ML, 6700 in 7. So I'm happy to write this message from hackbook :)

PS sorry for my not best English, hope you can understand what I wanted to say)

OK.

It doesn't sound like you installed AR9285 patch correctly. Are you using ProBook Installer v6.1 and following this guide: http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-probook/77057-guide-installing-mountain-lion-hp-probook.html ?

What seems to be working that I've checked right now:
- screen 1600x900, light changing in wide range
- touchpad
- keyboard, even functional buttons - found light changing, sound changing(not the same as at win but working)
- hdmi out! - additional display LG FullHD resolution, it's really useful for me to share picture for 2 monitors

OK, as expected...

- hdmi sound (but without changing audio volume)

Limitation of OS X. OS X does not allow volume change for HDMI audio. Must use volume controls on HDMI device instead.

- all usb out
- camera and mic - test it in Skype(But not Facetime - only on led indicator)

How well camera works depends on exactly which camera you end up with in your machine. Some people find CamTwist app helpful.

- cardreader
- ethernet Realtek RTL8168E-VL
- wifi AR9285 after additional fix

See above about AR9285. You should not need any patched kexts for 9285 wifi.

- battery status - shows mAh, timing percentage
- HW monitor - for CPU by every core, HDD, powers level
- cooler control and rpm status (really low rpm at idle - less 2000 rpm, cpu 50C)

OK.

Don't make any dsdt - just used probook intaller, thanks all developers who take part in those app.

The ProBook Installer v6.1 makes a DSDT for you, just as if you had done it yourself...

Some of already found issues
- doesn't go sleep. After switching sleep mode - shutdown for 1-3 sec, and switches on again, with black screen, which became working(full light) after pressing some button.

See the linked guide, step 5 (BIOS settings).

- vga out

VGA is not supported on the 4x40s.

Have some question
1. should I write correct smsbios file and set ddr, serial number?

The ProBook Installer v6.1 already gives you a correct smbios.plist and random serial#.

2. Some ideas how to fix sleeping? I see option in probook installer but don't want to choose update without advices and knowing how to restore...

Already mentioned. See guide, step 5.

3. (Fixed in prefernces of touchpad)Is it bug or feature I can't use one touch gesture as left click? It was a feature=)

Yes, it is an option. You set it how you want...

PS ML works really fast(maybe because it's clean) in comparing with Win 7, also difference in geekbench near 45% - 9700 in ML, 6700 in 7. So I'm happy to write this message from hackbook :)

Note that GB scores vary widely depending on which version you run (esp. between v2 and v3, 32-bit vs. 64-bit). IMHO, It is a really poor benchmark.

Yes tried to folow this guide but mess some moments - read from phone...
In future understand that better to print it and do only step by step.

Yes I applied 9285 patch from probookinstaller first - as mention wifi airport appers, but didn't sow any network, even after putting dns an ip.

Thanks for advices - fixed sleep after modifing usb/wlan switches to off, and appling sleep fix from probook(save to ram). Didn't test it very well yet, but seems after wake all ok.

Also many thanks for all this work that you for helping us, specially for DSDT patches! Fan patch really nice too - cooler was louder even on i3, on i7 it runs near 3000-4000 rpm on win 7. Now I almost don't hear it and tempeture seems stay fine(45-60С in browsing mode). Good work!

Found intresting thing - if close lcd on probook, I can use my LG by HDMI as main screen - resolution is ok, I can't change it, but its scaled to maximum. Can I use external monitor by HDMI as main for working with 2 displays(not only one)? In win it's easy to change but don't now is it changable for OS x.
"Try looking in SysPrefs -> Display." Yep there were solution, just need to drag top bar between screen (link).

9-10k in geekbench 32bit are pure results for my config? Hm... Tested in v3 and 2.3 - results was close(9.5-10k), got maximum near 10000 points in 3rd version. As I see other apple macbooks got 10-12k.

Now I can see that 4x40s series was not bad choice of biyung for installing os x - naw we can get almost 95% of working features. And with probook installer you shouldn't spent a lot of hours by making dsdt, seraching solution for not working hardware. It's not problem to get working system in a few hours now even without previous experiance. Thx =)

You might consider a redo. You don't need a kext to make AR9285 work... just DSDT patch.

Thanks. The fan on the 4x40s is supposed to be much better than the 4x30s. I have done a hardware mod that makes the fan run at about ~1900 RPM at idle. Quiet enough to let it run all the time.
