HD 4000 - green screen with iTunes movies

Ok I have been through a series of tests. These are the results of a clean install from 10.8.0 as I mentioned in my last post. All I did was use the Combo Update DMG's, enabled audio each time and I was able to watch iTunes bought content/trailers without any problems with either Accelerator installed through to 10.8.4 except for iTunes 11.0.4. Results show that looking at the IOReg for solutions it didn't seem to matter which Accelerator were loaded. It is the iTunes build that is the problem. All tests were in 64bit mode
iTunes Test

Test OS X Build Accelerator iTunes Build Working
1 10.8.0 Gen7 10.6.3 Yes
2 10.8.1 Gen7 10.6.3 Yes
3 10.8.2 Gen7 10.6.3 Yes
4 10.8.3 Intel 10.6.3 Yes
5 10.8.4 Intel 10.6.3 Yes
5(A) 10.8.4 Intel 10.7 Yes
5(B) 10.8.4 Intel 11.0.4 No

Summary of todays findings is if you want to watch iTunes content you can update from 10.8.0 to 10.8.4 but update iTunes as far as 10.7 on 7 series boards.

EDIT: Also tried using a discrete card and it poses the same situation.

I have attached all the IOReg's for each test.
Great job, indeed, Wildwillow!:thumbup:
How come on a fresh install 10.8.2 with its default iTunes 10.6.3 (case 3) didn't work for me?

EDIT: Oh yes, those were combo updates, not fresh installs! So what's missing in 10.8.2 that was present into 10.8.1 or earlier? I think that's the question

They were combo updates. I'm not sure yet what is significantly different, I can only assume it is a configuration tweak beyond 10.8.0 installer, Maybe this tweak is added to iTunes v11.0.4.

Hmmm, I'm still having the issue too. Having Appzapped iTunes 10.7 and then installed the older iTunes version with pacifist (On a 10.8.3 system) I have obviously not yet done enough to purge the problem. Still getting garbled screen.

Things that occur to me perhaps: Quicktime - As iTunes uses that is there something lurking? Actual downloads - did iTunes do something to tag the downloads so that when rolling back they exhibit the same problems?

Oh well, with the ATV having worked around this issue for me, it is of less irritation so I may just live with it for the moment.

Minihack. Please try this with iTunes 10.6.3 installed and 11.04 Appzapped. Try changing your Sys Def to Mac Pro 3,1. I know that Macmini 6,2 has better IB power management. But with Macmini Sys Def the movies wont play without garbled screen. Reverting back to default Mac Pro 3,1 it plays.

This is on 10.8.4, iTunes 10.6.3. I have just completed a fresh install and jumped straight to 10.8.4.

Right again. Mac Pro 3,1 ungarbled the screen. All good and will play.:thumbup:

I have been doing further testing. This time with iTunes 10.6.3, 10.7, 11.0.4. I have found that different system definitions causes the iTunes content to play in irregular manors. iTunes and system definitions have played a significant part as the results show. i Have joined the iTunes results of 10.6.3 & 10.7 as the outcome was the same. iTunes 11.0.4 separate.

Summary, these test show that you should be able to watch your content with the few system definitions that works with iTunes 10.7. I found it strange that no difference in OS X Build but between 10.6.3/10.7 and 11.0.4 it doesn't display correctly on 7 series boards.

What surprises me the most, is MBP 6,1 with 11.0.4 comes the closest on my H77n-Wifi board out of all the system definitions.

I have attached the IOReg's for these tests, only 10.6.3/10.7 same result and 11.0.4, both with all different system definitions.

Thanks for everyones input, as I made a ProBook 4540s (HD4000 Ivy Bridge) as a gift to my partner, and ALAS iTunes movies did not work!

What worked for me:

After the ProBook Installer.

Downgraded to iTunes 10.7.

Ran MultiBeast with these settings only:

Drivers->Graphics->Intel Graphics Patch... (selected)
Customization->System Definitions->MacPro->Mac Pro 3,1

(Not sure which of those switches made the difference. Not sure you need both. The Intel Graphics Patch was a guess. The Mac Pro 3,1 was something people mentioned in other threads that the definition alone could fix the problem in certain scenarios.)

Cheers!

Well this is odd, I first tried the iTunes 10.7 approach and all I got was SD trailers and a message that said this computer cannot play HD movies when I tried to purchase an HD film. So I upgraded back to 11.0.4. What I've noticed is that some HD trailers work. For example if you search for the movie Trance and you play the second trailer, the one on the right, it works and it appears to also be HD. The SD trailer is very grainy as I watched it in 10.7. If you attempt to play the first trailer, black screen no progression. I tried this on both iMac13,2 and MacPro3,1. I ended up going back to MacPro3,1 as there appears to be a sound delay in all other system profiles except MacPro3,1.
