[Guide] HP ProBook/EliteBook/Zbook using Clover UEFI hotpatch

Status
Not open for further replies.
I manually dragged the voodoo from my old efi/clover to the new. I thought it was essential and thought I was following the guide:
"Preparing essential kexts

Remove EFI/CLOVER/kexts/10.6, 10.7, 10.8, 10.9, 10.10, leaving just 'Other'

Copy essential kexts to the 'Other' directory (FakeSMC, VoodooPS2Controller). You only need the kexts that allow you to boot and operate the installer. Other kexts that you might use in the final installation can wait."

I dragged some others that I thought were essential as well. If I have other bad old files, I don't have any ideas which they are. I should have looked for newer versions first but assumed they would all get updated when I ran the download.sh scripts anyway.

I definitely did the download.sh, install_downloads.sh stuff and it seemed to run perfectly. Do the scripts install voodoo? Would it see that I already had one, then decide not to overwrite it? Would it do that for other files?

Read the guide:
https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-booting-the-os-x-installer-on-laptops-with-clover.148093/

You cannot expect to use an old VoodooPS2Controller.kext.
As per note here:
https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/readme-common-problems-in-10-13-high-sierra.233582/

Here is what I am assuming. Can you correct if I am mistaken?
1) download.sh, install_downloads.sh installed the most recent voodooPS2controller.kext to s/l/e
2) therefore, I do NOT need to install it(or the VoodooPS2Daemon) according the readme here https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-Voodoo-PS2-Controller
3) BUT...this most recent version still has to also be in the efi/clover/kext/other because that's the only kext the installer sees.
Kernel cache, of course, will not have FakeSMC.kext when booting the installer or recovery, so in these cases the kexts in EFI/Clover/kexts *will* be injected as you would expect.

Also, in case my assumptions are incorrect:

4)The readme for your voodoops2controller says "you are encouraged to use RehabMan's branch of kozlek's FakeSMC, such that this is not necessary". Since I followed this guide, can I assume I am using your branch of kozlek's FakeSMC?

The download.sh script will automatically gather the latest version of all tools (patchmatic, iasl, MaciASL) and all the kexts (FakeSMC.kext, IntelBacklight.kext, ACPIBatteryManager.kext, etc) from bitbucket. The install_downloads.sh will automatically install them to the proper locations.

The readme also mentions version numbers, but I can't find any version numbers, only what appear to be dates in the file names. Can I assume RehabMan-Voodoo-2017-0901 is the most recent and the one I should use?

GBAW (not mentioned before) is different from GACW and was not mentioned previously.
This is why you must be detailed problem reporting.

Changes for GBAW checked into latest 'beta' branch.
Thanks worked, everything is okay except ACPI Warning:GPE _L69 has no implementation. I don't know what that means

This is probably the cause of your corruption.
Restore from backup or fresh install.
Unlikely because a) I hadn't used windows after installing High Sierra until after High Sierra stopped booting and b) Macdrive is read only at this point. APFS functionality for Macdrive is still beta. So it can't write to the Mac drives and corrupt them. As for restoring from backup, I hadn't gotten to the point of backing up the new install yet, so the backup I have is of Sierra. The interesting thing is that the installer won't boot either (same circle with a slash through it) so whatever happened is affecting both the installed OS and the installer. They both were booting fine from the USB install drive and the final clover install on the hard drive before. It's a puzzle that apparently I'll need to solve on my own.

download.sh/install_downloads.sh will insure you have up-to-date kexts on your system volume.
But updating the kexts on EFI/Clover/kexts/Other is your responsibility.
And yes, my scripts install my own versions of all kexts (such as FakeSMC/etc).
Version numbers of kexts can be obtained with Finder's Get Info.

So... it seems like that is expected... the port on dock is just the same port on the laptop.
So both are not expected to work at the same time for separate monitors.

I forgot that these docks had a firmware update available to improve display compatibility, you may try applying the update if you have a windows partition you can boot into easily. It is available from this HP KB article.

Some news about my displayports on docking station which were not working in OSX...

Fleaplus recomended updating the firmware on dock DP hub. Installed windows on replacement drive and flashed the firmware which FIXED THE PROBLEM, THANKS... Now I have 100% working hack...

Thanks for help guys!

EDIT: KernelPanic when it tries to sleep if plugged in via DP on dock :(, same kernel panic if display it put to sleep (CTRL+SHIFT+POWER)
