[Guide] HP ProBook/EliteBook/Zbook using Clover UEFI hotpatch

Hey, RehabMan, when I helped others repair the ACPI of the elitebook 840g4, I found that there is no install_840g4_kabylake in install_acpi.sh or an option similar to install_8x0g4_kabylake. I hope you can add 840g4 support in install_acpi.sh. Currently, use hotpatch patch 840g4‘s ACPI worked well under 10.13.4.

can install win10 from scratch on your own on that nvme ssd.

I installed Samsung PM961(M.2) and Samsung 840pro(sata3) on 840g3. The installation of macOS works well. I also use BCM94352zae(M.2), which works well on macOS and linux systems. The link below win10 is unstable and often dropped. (This is my experience for reference)

Manual process for adding model scripts to install_acpi.sh.
It appears all files ready for 8x0 G4, but not added to install_acpi.sh.
Simple oversight.
Added/fixed now.

Never had a ProBook before, but bought a ProBook 450 G5, because of rehabmans unequaled experience and support here, which works 100% incl. iMessage and AirDrop. and the best thing to me is, it is 99% of the time completely silent when browsing the web, streaming full-hd video and office work. nothing more annoying to me then a fan spinning from time to time when idleing. only when using calculation intensive tasks like DAW work the fan will (of course) spin up, and still it is decently silent. win10 on the same machine is louder for the same tasks, lol, meaning the fan spins a lil bit more often.
so i bet for the next notebook i will look at a probook first, or an ARM-based machine, lets see the way apple is heading.

cheerio!

if you want it to get completely silent like my 840g3 look for voltageshift, should be able to undervolt prtty well (mine does -100 stable)

so nice to hear about silent systems! thx for the hint with voltageshift! any drawbacks on using undervolting?

thx and cheerio!

Nothing attached.

No "Problem Reporting" files attached.

Sorry my bad. Now I can run HS with old (backup) EFI
There are some issues:

1. Random Freezes
2. Sleep/ (can't) wake
3. Cannot test appleintelinfo.kext (this error:
Kext with invalid signatured (-67062) allowed: <OSKext 0x7ff53cd00130 [0x7fff8af9aaf0]> { URL = "file:///kexts/AppleIntelInfo.kext/", ID = "com.pikeralpha.driver.AppleIntelInfo" })

Use the gen_debug.sh tool mentioned in the FAQ, that way it is less likely you'll omit something.

Note that AppleIntelInfo.kext should never be installed (only loaded with kextutil or kextload). The message, if you're getting it from kextload/kextutil, is normal.

Per HP site, the ProBook 450 G5 has a 1080 display. How does the display quality compare to Retina? Can you post a screen capture?

1080p on a 15" screen is not Retina/HiDPI at all.
Just smallish text with a bit more "real estate".

but you get used to the scaling used by macOS :) even though I think the win10 is much better at scaling text.
but probably in win10 the text isn't scaled, it might be just a different font compered to the native screen resolution. wonder why macOS wouldn't allow to do that. because imo text scaling in macOS isn't that great ;) and without scaling it is as rehabman says, smallish ;)
but if you use external displays at their native resolution all this doesn't matter ;)

you could try using pseudo-retina resolutions on that screen (=lower res than native but "retina-style"), like in another thread around here written by rehabman :) but if you don't wanna waste your time I can tell you, I tried it: it looks great for scaled down resolution but is slow with the built in gfx-card, so I immediately disabled it again. probably if you get a 450 g5 with dedicated gfx-card (930mx), this would be better for the speed (but maybe worse for the fan. EDIT: nope, read the test of 470G5+930mx on notebookcheck.com, should be pretty much the same silent as the 450 g5 with intel gfx).

about the screen of the 450 g5: there are different revisions of this notebook around, I know of BOE screens (no PWM) and I have a LG-Philips screen (PWM at 21.000 Hz, which I can't "see", so its good). they are all ips screens, so good "angle stability" of image quality. backlight is uniform, almost no backlight bleeding on black screens. all in all you can't expect more for that price of the notebook, I rather think the screen is very good for the price. look at the price you pay if you buy it without windows and 256gb ssd! and look also for HP cash back rebates!
you could still replace the screen yourself if you don't like it: there are extensive service manuals around for the 450 g5, wonderful! I would currently buy this notebook immediately again and again.

cheerio!
