Thanks Rehabman, I got everything working great now. I previously had a Edimax EW-7811UTC USB dongle with the Yosemite driver off of their website and the wifi utility. This configuration worked but would cause a reboot after sleep when the laptop was not plugged in, and the wifi utility would freeze if the connection was left on if the laptop went to sleep while plugged in. I ended up purchasing a Wavlink WS-WN680A1 usb wifi dongle
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6PF3CZ1825 was only $20.00 and works perfectly - no problem with sleep or re-connecting. I used the drivers that come on the disk in the box. The wifi utility is a little kludgy compared to other ones that I have used, but once it is set up, there is no problem with it working. I also previously had a problem with being able to connect to my apple TV. I found out that the problem was the same fix that people had used to connect to the Apple store. Since the Acer S3-391 does not have a ethernet port, it needs to show one to be able to connect to an apple TV. I used the NullEthernet driver fix, which worked great!
