Hi!

For quite some time I've been thinking about building my own Hackintosh. After doing extensive research I've finally decided (well, almost) to go for it. :D

Right now, my only un-answered question is whether I should go for the 2GB or 4GB GTX 670?

I'm planning on doing some work in FCPX, Aperture and Logic Studio (possibly even some gaming via Bootcamp).

What are your thoughts on the matter?

Here are some of the other components I'm thinking about using, if it helps in answering my question:

Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5 TH
Intel Core i7 3770K
Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 16GB
Dell U2713HM

Thanks in advance!

Greetings from Sweden.

I would not purchase a 4GB video card unless you have multiple very high resolution screens (1440p class or larger) and even then it may still be overkill. FCPX and Aperture are tuned for use on Macs that have 1GB or 512MB of graphics memory and I doubt they would even take advantage of a full 2GB card, much less a 4GB card.

VRAM above 2gb is only used when you have 2+monitors running at more than 1920x1080.

Or if you're using an application for GPUCompute that can send larger hashes.

+1 to the 2gb

GTX 670 2gb card I think you should buy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127685&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
That's what I thought, 2GB will be enough.

I was thinking of buying the Gigabyte GTX 670 (GV-N670OC-2GD), because it has very good cooling. Would you recommend the MSI card you linked over the Gigabyte card, and if so, why?

Also, I noticed that your profile says you have GTX 680. Do you think it's worth it for me to go with GTX 680 instead of GTX 670?

Thanks in advance.

GTX 680 offers about %3-%8 advantage on average over the GTX 670. With the MSI 670 I linked you to, you will be able to overclock VERY easily with their Afterburner software. I have not heard as much good talk about the Gigabyte. But, if you buy the ASUS DCII TOP GTX 670, @ $415, you literally just have to drag sliders in their GPU TWEAK program to overclock it. With just a tiny bit of overclocking, the ASUS card is faster than %80 of GTX 680's(reference cards). I'd recommend the ASUS, then MSI, then Gigabyte. If you won't be overclocking, this would be just fine: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162108&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

Okey. Thanks for all the help! This forum is :headbang:
