Why not gather some logs?
Code:
man log

There's a variety of errors, most of them also appears on my laptop that works ok. Here's one that doesn't

Code:
2018-01-12 08:21:36.812612-0800 0x5d7 Default 0x0 264 7 WindowServer: (SkyLight) [com.apple.SkyLight:default] Set a breakpoint at SLSLogBreak to catch errors/faults as they are logged.

I have a MacBookPro10,1 with Nvidia GT 650M - running 10.13.2. It seems fine but I don't use it for long periods anymore, mainly as a digital source for my DAC :) Water WebGL is very smooth on it, as is the UI.

ps. did you finish your fresh install? any improvements?

Could you do some tests for me? But I don't see a PM option on TonyMac.

Are you having the same issues everyone else is having here with lags and nVidia??

As far as the install, I didn't do a fresh install. I just reinstalled from Recovery partition on top of the "broken" HS and it went A-OK. Everything is now solid and I'm back to work :)

I'm moving to X299 soon I'll be doing a fresh install anyway.

Only some are having issues and none of those are posting logs only web GL videos. Here's mine

That's still dropping frames. I did a test with my 980Ti and it was horrible after the VRAM filled up.

Here's my WebGL (80MB attached) with a cheapish RX560. Note I have heavy task running in the background on a second monitor while I do this.

@vulgo could you do a test with Photoshop open, maybe run an automated task so it does something, also have Lightroom open with some other apps and dozen or more Chrome tabs? If you have a 2nd display, move some things to that display.

Then do the WebGL test again and capture it see the insane frame drops as the VRAM fills up.

I recommend you run at 1440p if your monitor supports it. 1080p is not as bad as 1440p and above. You are still dropping frames in your WebGL test. Maybe you can use something like DisableMonitor to use a higher resolution on your display to do this test for a minute?

It might not be super smooth when spinning the camera but it isn't exhibiting any blatant stuttering and long pauses that some have posted - which is the point isn't it? Running hundreds of apps and tasks is unrelated.

Your video is dropping frames. Your monitor is 1080p and not 1440p or 4k or dual monitors. Please use at least a 1440p monitor to test and dual monitors preferred. Also run multiple GPU intensive apps so the VRAM fills up quickly. I have 64GB of RAM and have Illustrator, Photoshop, AfterEffects and Premiere Pro always open.

Your 970 is faster than my RX560 and yet it drops frames.

I am not sure why you're denying the issue here where there's plenty of complaints.

I just put back my 980Ti back in for testing and booted off my Sierra SSD. It runs almost perfect.

I took it out again and put back the AMD card because I need my High Sierra as I have a ton of work to do and my files are on my desktop.

A fresh reboot is not going to help test this issue. Fresh boot runs fine, but once you start opening apps that fill up the VRAM, it starts to lag.

I personally love the AMD performance and fits perfectly fine with my workflow—although a Vega 56 or Vega 64 would be nice to have instead.

I'm moving to X299 for the main workstation so I might keep the Z170 as a gaming rig with the 980Tis (Windows only)

I don't care if it 'drops frames' in a WebGL demo running in a browser. I have none of the issues mentioned in the OP:
Hey guys,
recently updated to High Sierra 10.13 10.13.1 and my GPU performance has gone bad. Opening a program from the launchpad is visibly stuttering, and I get lags in Logic X when scrolling and scaling etc. But its not like having no driver installed. Scaling windows is also stuttering (no idea if this is normal).
BTW opening many apps on my system doesn't fill the VRAM, must be the apps you are using.

I don't use my Hackintosh for Facebook and YouTube videos. It's for professional work.

Oh definitely, you know, standard apps like Adobe CC2018, Chrome, and FCPX. Maybe I should just use this as a Facebook machine?

Hmm let me see.

If an nVidia GPU has issues with High Sierra and I plainly put in a cheap AMD RX560 and the problem goes away just like many others here.....oh yeah, I must be doing something wrong and Apple is not to blame.

Hmmm let me see.

My 2014 MacBook Pro with High Sierra and nVidia GPU that was built in lags....oh......must be me causing this.

In my case, UI sluggish only found in SKL/KBL + GT730 + HS 10.13.x, for IVY/Haswell + GT730 + HS 10.13.x, no sluggish everything ok.
For example, even Celeron 1037U + GT730 have better UI performance (no UI sluggish) than i3 7100 + GT730 in 10.13.x.
Tested with same SSD and GT730 with 7/8/100/200 series mobos, IQSV enabled and disabled, result same as above.
