Solid solution is to edit the org.chameleon.boot.plist to remove

<key>kernel</key>
<string>mach_kernel</string>

as explained in several threads

or edit the Clover config.plist to remove same if using Clover as boot loader.

I removed both of those entries and still had the "can't find find mach_kernel error, as did several others in other posts I read. Once I updated my old Mtn Lion partition to Chimera 4.1.0, problem solved.
Yosemite installed 4.1.0 by default I believe.
