I’m a huge fan of the Arctic Liquid Freezer II series. Silent fans, proprietary pump technology, excellent cooling performance, choice of ARGB or unlit fans, and even a fan on the CPU block that circulates air across the VRMs.

Thanks for the reply! I am completely new to this. Do Liquid coolers need software to control the fans? I keep reading that windows software is needed to drive the fans properly. Software that is not available in MacOS. Liquid coolers require USB connectivity to program. Are there coolers that just work from bios/uefi level. Ramp up the fans/pump as the temps get higher? Similar to how standard case fans work?

The config.plist looks fine. Some suggestions:

• Try setting SecureBootModel to Disabled (it's currently Default).
• If that fails, perhaps there is a third-party kernel extension that works in Big Sur, but is not compatible with Monterey. Have a look at /Library/StagedExtensions/Library/Extensions folder and feel free to post a screenshot of its contents.
• Also check if /Library/StagedDriverExtensions folder is empty. Hopefully it will be empty.

Can I check those folders from a shell via open core? I seem to remember a shell option when hitting the space bar.

As the drive is just applications, would a clean install of Monterey 12.2.1 from usb be possible should something be really broken?

I can't speak to that brand, but I've got a corsair AIO in mine. The software in Windows etc is usually for RGB or setting fan profiles. The fan profiles can be set in the BIOS though.

The wonderful thing about Arctic Liquid Freezer II is that it does not have any USB connections. It’s completely regulated by its own sensors and by the motherboard 4-pin header. You can use BIOS to set fan/pump curves.

Hi @CaseySJ, i’ve tried to update OpenCore twice now from version 0.71 through the HackinDROM app, and while the update goes perfectly, and macOS works fine, Windows then fails to boot.

I’ve followed your guide about disabling Apple VT-D, but there was no SSDT-DMAR.aml in the updated folder, and no reference to it in the config.plist to change. Also DisableIoMapper in Kernel quirks was already enabled. Have reverted back to 0.71 and then Windows boots perfectly. Not quite sure what’s going wrong as i’ve only tried to update through the app!

Let’s try upgrading to OpenCore 0.7.8 (last month’s release) by following the mini-guide and doing the upgrade manually by downloading the EFI folder and entering PlatformInfo credentials into the config.plist.

Then boot macOS to with that version to verify it’s okay. If so, disable AppleVTD, reboot, and see if Windows will launch.

I’ve not found any issue with speed control from the BIOS, as it’s a standard voltage or PWM for the fans. The motherboard has a pump/aio header so it follows the same logic. For RGB, I set it using a windows VM and I’ve not had to changed it again. That was purely because I wanted to make it look ridiculous.

Ok, so I did a bit of experimenting, and after updating OC through HackinDROM to 0.78, and making sure SSDT-DMAR was included in the download, I followed your mini guide (and after adding my own USB SSDT from my previous EFI config, as the standard one enabled in the new EFI made me lose my front USB ports) everything works perfectly, and I can boot into Windows without disabling AppleVTD. I was researching last night and noticed this too! It will be the one I get. Apparently, it is very well built and has quality fans too. Thanks for the recommendation!

@CaseySJ I'm just preparing a USB installer for Monterey in case I can't repair my broken upgrade, are there any additional steps required should I go down the clean install route? I've prepared the EFI partition with SecureBoot disabled as per your previous reply. I've removed all the other NVMe/SATA drives so its just my boot disk present.
