GA-Z77X-UP5 TH Chimera stopped working

I've been having a lot of system lock ups with FCPX. Did a reboot the other day and the Chimera wouldn't load. I just get a disk error now.

I can force OSX to boot when running the BIOS. But this is not optimal.

I'm between projects, and am considering doing a reinstall of the OS. I have a backup of 10.8.1, but the system locks have me wondering if I have anything setup incorrectly, so that's why I'm considering the reinstall. Any other recommendations?

Curious to know why it would suddenly stop working without doing any changes on my side. I read that Apple did a silent upgrade to the virus definitions. Could that have broken it?

Is it the "boot0: error" problem?

Have you tried simply reinstalling the boot blocks using the Chimera package? If they've got corrupted somehow this might fix it.
