Ok - here is a zip file will all the stuff I used for the Studio 1645.

Contents:

Battery - Enables Battery Management
Bluetooth - A package that enables quite a few Broadcom Bluetooth Chipsets
Ethernet - Enables some Ethernet controllers - found this was a bit tricky
Fan/CPU - Stops the fan from being powered up all the time
GPU - The 3 Kexts in this folder stopped the wrong frame buffer from being used (black screen)
HD Sound - A fix and pref pane which worked well and got the sub woofer working
Sleep Enabler - Aided with sleep - but I still found it problematic
Wifi - Got Wifi working flawlessly in 32 bit mode

Obviously, the success will depend on other Kexts - conflicting etc, your boot.plist, EFI strings etc and also if the chipset is the same or not. Dell have a habbit of changing their component manufacturer even though the Dell P/N is the same.

Good luck.

Guys... are these working with Inspiron N4010?

I could at least boot into 10.6.3, before installing some of the kexts linked in this thread. Now, right before the OSX desktop should load, the screen resizes and shifts itself over to the left, shrinking the available horizontal width. I get some distortion up top, and the desktop never loads.

I have tried with GraphicsEnabler=yes/no, and put the kexts from the zip file into /E/E, but now I can't boot.

Ok, so i know this thread is a bit old but I thought I'd share that it's possible to get full 1920x1080x32 resolution with QE/CI running on a Dell 1645 Studio XPS 16 with an ATI4670 card on the internal display as well as working VGA + HDMI outputs.

Woohoo!

There's been a bunch of work recently on connector info profiles and modding the ATI kexts. info here:

and specifically for the Dell 1645 here:

Also, i note that extracting the DSDT and decomiling and recompiling using the INTEL (iasl) tool does not work - way too many errors.

I managed to extra the DSDT and decompile it with the Microsoft ASL compiler (v4) to build a new DSDT file that could then be decompiled with the intel ASL compiler.

Hopefully the ATI Kexts and DSDT file collection and dumps should be attached if the forum lets me, otherwise PM me.

My current status is:

Lion 10.7.0 Installing using Uniboot
Lion 10.7.2 combo update applied
Multibeast DSDT Install + PS2 mouse/keyboard
Laptop Display on ATI Mobility HD 4670 at 1920x1080x32 with QE/CI
HDMI: Yes (multi-monitor ok, must boot up from cold with cable attached)
HDMI Audio: Untested
VGA: Yes (multi-monitor ok, must boot up from cold with cable attached)
Wifi: yes, but not using the supplied Mini-PCI card
LAN: No
Audio: No (though I had this working in 10.6.7)
Bluetooth: Yes, tested. used DellBluetoothHCI.1.2.pkg
USB: Yes
Firewire: untested
CardReader: untested (though I had this working in 10.6.7)

could you give us a hand on how you got there ? i cant boot lion because i get a cpu panic but i can boot fine in snow leopard, i can only boot in safemode due to the 4670gpu,i dont think the kext are supported in snow,i updated to 10.6.8 but lost usb support so i will reinstall and update then try run lion that way thanks.

Hello all, Hydrasworld, thanks for the info and your help. I've finally got my 1645 LVDS working after months of trying. Really appreciate all the hard work the people on this board and insanelymac have put in. One question Hydrasworld, did you ever get LVDS working on the 1645 on Snow Leopard? Do you think its possible?

Best wishes docdune

Hey hydrasworld,

I just wanted to say thanks. I ended up just getting a Macbook, so I don't use the Dell anymore, but I'm glad this info is available now.

Thank you so much hydraworld!!!
I was thinking to give up but then your method did work great:)
I also managed to make Ethernet works by using Kext from imick.
Now I'm able to download apps directly from the App Store.

Just in case, here's the link.
