Re: Adding ATI card IDs to ATI.c - update (10-May)

Hi Notshy - just for information and regarding Chimera and the many Chameleon releases that are appearing recently.

Question is do the latest releases like r1095 contain the same amended ati.c files as i notice that Macman has recently added dome corrections to the main trunk?

OR is Chimera different?

Tks for info, which is basically keeping my eye open to get my Powercolor 6950 card working.

Take care...

Re: Adding ATI card IDs to ATI.c - update (10-May)

Anyone got any help for a noob? I've exhausted all my knowledge :problem:

I just bought a Gigabyte HD 6850 on advice from a friend who has the same system as me and its all working great apart from getting the framebuffer working on the card.

I have tried booting from chimera as is suggested in this post, with all the framebuffer configs listed as supporting 6xxx card with no success. They either wont boot, or boot but the terminal read outs show the same as below.

These are the terminal read outs I have got:

  • Jamess-Mac-Pro:~ CDM$ ioreg | grep ATY
    | | | | +-o ATY,ATY,RadeonFramebuffer@0 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x1000003$
    | | | | +-o ATY,ATY,RadeonFramebuffer@1 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x1000003$
    | | | | +-o ATY,ATY,RadeonFramebuffer@2 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x1000003$
    | | | | +-o ATY,ATY,RadeonFramebuffer@3 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x1000003$
    Jamess-Mac-Pro:~ CDM$ sudo lspci -nnvd 0x1002: | grep -B2 Subsystem
    Password:
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc Unknown device [1002:6739] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Giga-byte Technology Unknown device [1458:21f8]
    --

03:00.1 Audio device [0403]: ATI Technologies Inc Unknown device [1002:aa88]
Subsystem: Giga-byte Technology Unknown device [1458:aa88]

The strange part is that, for example - booting using "juncus" from chimera load screen allows me to load the os. However when I tested actually adding this config to my boot.plist the os no longer loads. It gets to the grey apple loading screen but stays there forever with the wheel thing still spinning.

Is there anything that may be preventing the config changes being made from chimera boot screen?
I am running the ATI kexts from mulitbeast 3.8, graphics enabler=yes, Easybeast

Im running 10.6.8 and I need to run ableton live cos i use it for my job, unfortunately i didn't find out about the problems this card causes for ableton until after i bought the card. i.e the installer crashes as soon as it is launched.
I really wanna get this working cos i just spent $200 on this card and this computer is useless to me if it doesnt run ableton live. I wish I'd done more research, but this just isn't something I would have expected to need to look for.

The updates will contain the latest Trunk and our tweaks.

@ilcesk - that means you haven't install IORegistryExplorer. Please install before running the command.

no I haven't install IORegistryExplorer. it's standalone! or not??

@alnr,
I meant try to find someone, for example on Craiglist, willing to exchange a 6-month old HD5770 with your brand new HD6770.

oh ok, let me wait for a couple of months first. who knows, somebody might pop a fix for it :D

thanks again..

hi guys, finally found a 5770 card (yehey!!!). sad part is i'm broke for buying the 5770, but at the same time very happy because i finally have a working hackintosh!!!

many thanks guys!!

Hey Notshy, I'm just wondering if you think these updates will be at all likely to help with the people are having with late model ati cards like my gigabyte 6850 not loading framebuffers?

been trying real hard to get this working and i'm wondering if there is still hope.

cheers.

Re: Adding ATI card IDs to ATI.c - update (10-May)

Question: Do we still need the ATI Kexts mentioned in the first post if we're working with Lion and want to help get our card supported? I used MultiBeast to install the Kexts as suggested but they completely hosed my resolution. Before I installed the kexts, Chimera would give me full QE and full resolution, just not load the right framebuffer (Bulrushes).

I have a Gigabyte 6670 and I'm trying to either get support included or whatnot, but I'd rather not mess up my kexts in the process.

Thanks!

Guess I have to build a custom Chameleon to find the right frame buffer. Is it possible to add a framebuffer that is working for the 6670 such as Muskgrass or Ipomoes?

Can anyone suggest where we can install this info into The 2600.kext

Sent back a xfx 6790 Ordered a HIS 6750 SLI.
This should be fun, it's not on the list either!
Thanks for all the help.

I have also spent significant time getting a Gigabyte SilentCell HD6750 GPU (0x1002:0x68bf) installed under OS X 10.6.8. Following instructions on this thread I could get that far that the card is recognised with GraphicsEnable=yes and the ATIFrameBuffer is successfully loaded, and even the card recognises my HDTV:

lspci -vnnd 1002: | grep -B2 -i subsystem
pcilib: 0000:01:00.0 64-bit device address ignored.

However, all my attempts to find a suitable frame buffer personality has failed and my screen is either goes black after OS X is booted or keeps showing the Apple boot screen :( . In both cases I can get the FB content in VNC.

If someone could get the HD6750 card working, would you please send me information about your FB Personality. My objectives are to get at least HDMI and DVI (single monitor mode, though) up and running?

Thanks in advance.
