My Define R4 case has two USB3 ports on the front. These work perfectly fine until I try to use a USB3 device, in this case, a Kingston DataTraveler G4. If I try to copy anything larger than a text file, I receive this error message:

The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “[File name]” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)

The thumb drive works fine when using the USB2 ports on the front.

I've got the same problem, looking forward to a solution.

I'm on 10.9.2

Intel i7-3930k
Asus Sabertooth X79

Cheers,
Keith
