You can definitely get the first 2 sticks working, the last one won't work unless you have another stick to go with it.. At least I think, I never tried it because it didn't seem logical.

yeah thats probably what im going to do, but the guy says that all the ram works, he says that hes going to test it in my face. will it work?
Paul,
Yep, having 3 sticks on a dual-channel (4-slots) works...
However, you'll be losing the ability to use dual-channel, adversely affecting your RAM performance.

I'd strongly recommend you against it, as you'll have a hard time finding a 1-stick to complete it to 8GB.

Better grab 4GB, or 2x4GB, or an 8GB kit.

is a 6 gb better than 4gb dual channel?
More RAM, but slower.

Well it goes from dual channel ram to single channel ram, so yeah. It's like moving from a RAID 0 configuration to absolutely no RAID.

Paul said:
yeah but the computer will go faster right?
No. Not necessarily.

Paul said:
and does it reduce the ram speed by alot
Well, it halves the memory bandwidth...
But it doesn't mean you'll get half the memory performance...

If you ask me, I'd steer away from an esoteric setup like this...

esoteric... SAT word! :D

I mean you will still get the full 6 GB, but the speed that data is accessed will be slower.

Wow, you're making me get out a dictionary just to be able to talk to you
