ASUS Vivobook S200 / X202 (Is it good?)

Update: I was able to get Mac OS X installed, but only by moving the HD3000 drivers completely out of the way. Note that the model I'm using has an HD3000, not a HD4000.

After Mac OS X was installed, I tried multiple means of getting the graphics accelerator going-- switching between the 10.8.3 and 10.8.2 AppleIntelHD* drivers, changing the amount of graphics memory between 64MB And 512MB... nothing worked. I absolutely could not get the machine to boot with graphics acceleration, and sometimes it would freeze outright on startup.

Anyone else having problems like this? How did you solve them?

My guide is for S200 with HD4000 only - a really long string in config.plist is for HD4000.
If you have HD3000, you need a different string or maybe using other method for it to work.
I don't have HD3000 to try, but I'll look it up for you sometimes this weekend.

Update:
I just do a quick look.
Read this thread on how to generate the string: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/282631-hd3000-other-card-solution-by-efi-string-creation/
You can try the already generated string in the thread too to see if it works.
You also need to install back those HD3000 drivers that you deleted.
My suggestion is editing config.plist with the new string for HD3000, and try to boot into the installer. See if it works for you.

Thank you for the followup!

I have since managed to get OS X installed-- after "downgrading" AppleIntelHD*.kext and IOGraphicsFamily.kext from the 10.8.3 versions to the 10.8.2 versions (I was installing from a 10.8.3 installer). Noteworthy is that I was not able to boot the installer using Clover. I had to boot directly from my Unibeast device (which, of course, uses Chameleon).

Now I have a NEW problem. Once installed, I again cannot boot the installed system using Clover, but only using Unibeast/Chameleon. I've tried just about everything, including doing a fresh install of Clover, but nothing works. Furthermore, USB support is broken even while booting; I can't use the keyboard.

It is POSSIBLE that all I need to do is set up the new string for my HD3000..... but I'm not sure. I will certainly try that.

What I'd really like would be to have Clover chainload Chameleon; that would probably solve my problem very neatly. I've read that this is possible, but I've been unable to find how via googling. Any ideas?

I just tried 10.8.4 without any issue. I don't have 10.8.3 though.
Which bios version do you have? And what did you change in your bios settings?
From your screenshot, I saw some error with NTFS partitions when booting. How did you setup your drive? In my clover usb, there is driver for ntfs, so as I know it shouldn't have error.
Also, how did you make your USB mountain lion? Did you check the laptop support option when making USB mountain lion using Unibeast?
And when you run the installer, did you hit space bar and choose boot without cache option?
I am not sure by this "USB support is broken even while booting; I can't use the keyboard." If USB doesn't work, how can you use clover USB and Unibeast USB. And are you talking about the built-in keyboard or USB keyboard? If the built-in keyboard doesn't work, that means there is no driver.
Here is the special CloverUSB for HD3000, see if it works: http://sdrv.ms/19SUGn2
Also try to change setting in DSDT fix mask option of clover. My settings might not work with your laptop specs.

TWuser, (& Harry) I also have the woot Q200E/X202E and am unable to successfully boot into the MountainLion installer, I am using 10.8.4. in both cases -booting from chameleon on the Unibeast install USB, or using Clover-It gets as far as "[IOBluetoothHCIController][start] -- completed" and then hangs. It never KPs, but even 15 minutes of waiting never gets beyond here... any ideas?

I have tried the hd3000 string from the linked insanelymac thread, as well as nearly every conceivable setting for the DSDT patch mask in clover, and I can cause a KP, or get the boot to fail sooner, but never get any farther than this.

update: I can boot through to the installer if I use chameleon in single user mode, but there is no trackpad support and so far it has frozen every time after hitting enter the first time...

That error is usually graphic issue. You might need to look up on how to get HD3000 working.
My suggestion is go to config.plist and set StringInjector to No and try it. When doing this, HD3000 driver won't work, but at least you might be able to boot into the installer.
If Unibeast is working for you, you can use that, and use an USB mouse if you can find one (borrow someone :) ).

I am sure you can boot into installer if you make changes to clover settings so that it works for your system.

Hi Harry,

Thanks for the guide, it's really awesome!
I was able to set up the system from the first install, usually it took for me about 2 days with other laptops/pc-s.

The only question left is:
15. Go to BIOS and add EFI boot entry:
What is the boot partition number? Can you put here an example of how you entered it in your laptop?
Because when I added it it was already prefilled with some long path, I kept it and it seems to be working.

But I made some modifications:
I updated to 10.8.4 combo right after install, and it's working great, no KP so far.
I haven't used VoodooPS2, instead I used kexts in Elan V4 pack.
And also updated to latest versions of VooDooHDA and IntelCPUPowerManagement.

Still some parts needs to be done:
- brightness. It's not on maximum.
- Fn keys not working
- Battery saving (CPU Pstates). Currently only 2 states are used: 8 and 17 and battery drain quite fast.
I have spent all night trying the suggestion with VooDooPstates and Monitor - no luck, only got several kernel panics.
