Apple Introduces New MacBook Air and Mac Mini

Nice to know...

It sounds awesome!!
I think that the Asrock H370M-ITX/ac seems one of the best for a mac mini 2018 config (6 SATA, and not 4 as all the other brands in ITX with z/h370 generation).

It would be great if the Mac Mini uses the H370 chipset. I some users have had difficulty getting everything running right with H370.

I think that's the chipset that makes the most sense for a Mac Mini, there's no need for Apple to pay extra for Z370 or Z390 chipset since there isn't any need for the additional PCI-e lanes.

It would be aweome if they also used the new Intel Wi-Fi.

It also has USB 3.1 Gen 2, unlike the Z370 version.

USB 3.1 gen 2 isn't a concern for me since there's native support for ASMedia chipsets already and USB 3.1 gen 2 has been working OOTB since Z170.

That's useful to know. I've been too tight to upgrade from Haswell until now

Yes, macOS has native support for the ASMedia chipsets used in Z170-Z370. Early reports from Z390 users seem to indicate that Intel USB 3.1 gen 2 is working as well.

Has anyone seen an ioreg from the new Mini yet ? That would tell us a lot more about the internals.
Try contacting Quinn Nelson he has one and could run an ioreg for you. He's a member here.

Wow. You're right. I didn't even know of the existence of an i7-8700B.

What doesn't make sense is that both the i7-8700 and i7-8700B are 65W TDP and both have the same clocks.

Can it be that the i7-8700B is just an i7-8700 without the IHS? Because as far as I can tell everything else is the same.

Edit:
Just found another difference. The i7-8700B uses BGA1440 while i7-8700 is LGA1151.

I think the difference is only in the package. Even the price of both are the same.

Put simply: the 8700B is literally just a 8700, but soldered to the chipset for mobile platforms. Apparently the only advantage is a higher working temp range.
