I just updated Mavericks - I now think it may have went to 10.9.1.

I got the errors, then removed the following KEXTS: Voodoo, IOAudioFamily, and IOPCIFamily.

Evidently, I wasn't supposed to remove IOPCIFamily because safe mode wouldn't work after that.

I hooked up my HD to the dock, put the files back in and now the grey Apple screen with the spinning wheel at the bottom is all I get.

Does this mean I have to re-install the whole system or what?

Thank you!

I have always found it much better to erase and install.
It's not even that much more work, just move your important docs/folders to another drive... erase the OS X HD drive and reinstall. Every time I've had problems on a new install it has been because I tried to upgrade.

Might not be what you want to hear, but that has been my experience.

I'll try rebooting using UniBeast! Thanks!

Yeah, I hate doing the whole process, but I just may have to.

I'll keep y'all updated.

What do you do with your installed apps? That's the part of this process that takes the most time...
I've never had an update problem. Perhaps because I have a complete and bootable backup ready in case it fails...:D:D

Murphy says that if I don't have a backup - the update will fail!

It will boot from the USB, but it wants to re-install everything again.

Is this what I'm gonna have to do?

It looks like all that went wrong was the fact that when it updated it went to 10.9.1 (how would I know if that's what happened?)

or

the IOPCIFamily kext was damaged (this error was shown on the boot screen when restarting after the update).

Thanks!

I tried restoring it but that didn't work.

Then I tried rebooting from the usb and I got this: (picture)

Any ideas?
