You just got your new M2 or M3 Mac from Apple. It was too expensive to get a 1TB or larger NVMe SSD. The new Apple Silicon Mac has a one year warranty. You write lots of data to your boot drive on a regular basis. Smaller SSDs have lower TBW ratings. If the internal NVMe fails after a few years, when it's out of warranty, you can't even boot from an external SSD. What to do ?

Put a 1TB or larger WD SN850X NVMe in an Acasis enclosure and make it your boot drive. That greatly reduces wear and tear on your Mac's internal NVMe drive. Right now these sell for $100 on Amazon and will be nearly as fast to boot from as your internal NVMe is. Expect to get slightly under 3,000 MB/s read and write speeds when using this with a WD branded NVMe such as the SN850X or the SN770. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B7CKVCCV/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

These drives are also to be had for similar prices over here too - discounts bring them down to the £100 mark.

However, before people dive into this subject, I'd recommend they read-up on the process to get an idea of what is involved. Here's good starting point:
