cinebech points?

Hm. True. Guess we can only wait for someone to make it work or just for further support. Maybe with the Mac Pro re-fresh. New Xeon Chips just out, month or two to re-fresh I'd say, assuming Apple decides to use these in the Mac Pro re-fresh.

Forgot that bit :D

I currently have a GTX 460 as listed under my name on the left, and I can't get it running properly on OS X. I'll be ordering this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product and this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product once I get paid on Thursday and I'm wondering whether or not that dual-fanned XFX 6870'd work. I know someone here said that any XFX 6870 would work, but I wanna be sure of it.

Before I do that, I'm gonna install that DVD burner there and then try and get JPA's GTX 460 method working...

Thanks,
Shiggitay2

Why not go for the sony optiarc? It is a through and through proven compatible and problem free performer. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118039

Have you considered the Asus 6870? Even though the XFX is slightly overclocked compared to the Asus I'll bet the Asus card performs at the same if not a higher level than the XFX. My Asus 6850 is beating some of the 6870's in cinebench, despite its lower stats on paper. Plus the Asus card has been tested and confirmed a number of times.

I really like the 2 fan design of that XFX card, and I've heard it got [really] good reviews.

As for the DVD drive there my friend recommended me towards Samsung, but it's all up in the air still. I get paid Thursday, so I have two days to dick around with configurations. I also want to get a GA-P67A-UD4-B3 mobo to replace my current MSI board that's been running my system in a semi-temporary basis. Though, when I get the DVD drive and GPU I'll be left with likely less than $50 lol. I guess I could run my MSI board a bit longer until I can afford the $190 for that UD4.

Well, cinebench will be the final judge. Who is your friend? Did he guide you to the Samsung because he likes it, or because it pretty much never causes any kind of issues with Osx? I have used lite-on, Asus, and Samsung drives before I found this forum and its ubiquitously recommended Sony drive. It is recommended for a reason (plus it is almost always the cheapest of the options)

My friend has never hackintoshed before, but he's got way more computer building experience than I do. I currently have a [likely dead] LG drive, that when it would have no disc in it it would churn nonstop, seeking for a disc that's not in it. I've been told by people on this forum that that's an LG issue, and to try another brand, yes like Sony.

I want to order some HTPC parts around early September and have them shipped to my friend, and that would coincide with my vacation time from work, and we'd piece it together, together. I think I'd have it shipped ahead back home once all assembled and working so I wouldn't have to hassle with it on the plane/bus/train depending on how I go. I'd say likely plane. I plan on making my HTPC a Hackintosh Media PC, so he'll have some Hackintoshing experience then. :)

Here's a list of the parts I'll be ordering:

Thanks for your input though. I'll report back once (and if) I get it all running (when I get my components this weekend/early next week).
