    Future of Hackies...?

We all have our opinions…I think that Apple will continue to support x86 for 5-7 years after the last Intel Mac ships next year. Intel Macs have a very long useful life, which was not true of power PC Macs, or any computers, 15 years ago. I believe that today’s new Macs will get OS updates for 5...

New Apple Silicon Macs: MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini

Oh, and I guess the PC architecture that we build our Hackintoshes on is now an old design. These SoC’s seem much more efficient. I like the modular systems we have as a hobby, but for real workloads, these SoC’s systems will be awesome. I already use an iPad Pro for most of my professional...

New Apple Silicon Macs: MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini

Lots of possibilities - more performance for less/same cost, more portability. I think Windows support will come through virtualization. I think the Mac user base will grow with this new level of performance and availability of iOS apps for dedicated uses like shopping and social media. I think...

Are you running an old Sandy Bridge system?

IMHO I think a Sandy Bridge system would run fine as long as you have a system definition that is recent enough and a graphics card that supports METAL (consider getting an AMD card to avoid updating NVIDIA’s drivers at every update). I saw a video on line of a guy running Mojave with an...

Is anyone using a StarTech USB 3.1x5 port card (PEXUSB312EIC)?

I installed the card and it works. My Hackintosh and my MacBook Pro get the same throughput speed on USB3.0 devices. Seems fairly stable. But, system information does not report any USB devices or PCIe devices that reference the new card. I used the internal USB 3.0 port to power the ports on...

Problem with USB-C not seen as USB 3.1

I have a similar problem with a StarTech card that uses the ASM1142. It works on Sierra but not on High Sierra. I can connect to USB drives but there is no info in "About This Mac". Did you have any success making yours work? Similar cards are on the buyer's guide, so surely others have this issue?

Is anyone using a StarTech USB 3.1x5 port card (PEXUSB312EIC)?

This card looks good - ASM1142 chipset, 2 USB type A, 1 USB type C and headers for 2 internal ports. It is powered by a SATA power cable. I am running High Sierra 10.13.5. Has anyone had success with this card on 10.13.5? Does the ASM1142 chipset always work or are there versions/configurations...

Are you running an old Sandy Bridge system?

I am keeping my Sandy Bridge system alive for at least another couple of years. Mojave is not much of an enhancement (desktop stacks? Whatever...) so why buy a new system? I’m running High Sierra on the same hardware I bought in Feb 2012, except for the SSD’s, a recycled Apple Bluetooth module...

2nd HDD doesn't show up in High Sierra

Also, the 3TB HDD is working. I had to reformat and set it up for time machine, but it is working fine. Lost all of my old backups but that is not such a big deal on this machine.

2nd HDD doesn't show up in High Sierra

Thanks. This fix worked well. I booted up, created an Admin user with administrator privileges, shut down the system, unplugged all the drives except the boot drive, rebooted and logged in as Admin. This allowed me to download files and work without the raid set crashing my system. I installed...

2nd HDD doesn't show up in High Sierra

This is probably causing another issue with my build. I use a Raid 0 drive (two Crucial MX-series 500GB SSD's) as my home directory. When I try to access the drive, like launching an app from Home/Downloads or copying a file from /Home/Downloads to /SystemDrive/Applications, Finder hangs and...

2nd HDD doesn't show up in High Sierra

I have a similar problem. Upon updating to High Sierra, my 3TB time machine hard drive will not mount. I can see the drive in Disk Utility and in Terminal, but it will not mount. I did not have this drive plugged in when I updated the system. Also I am using the new Apple File System on my...

Are you running an old Sandy Bridge system?

My updates have always been smooth, even though I use the old school Award BIOS. I have all clover boot loader stuff on a small SSD, and my OS's on separate SSD's. A few months ago I bought a low cost USB audio dongle so that I would no longer need to worry about audio driver updates. When I...

Are you running an old Sandy Bridge system?

Thanks for your post! It's good to hear that you have had a good run with your 2600k. I am going to get ambitious soon and upgrade from bios to EFI, but otherwise I can't find a lot wrong with it. I have an old Mac mini core 2 duo that I use for my home server, and I have a MacAir for my day...

Are you running an old Sandy Bridge system?

I'm curious...how many users on the forum are still running on Sandy Bridge? I built my Hack in March 2012, and it has been running strong every since. I have a Gigabyte Z68 series board, quad core i7, 16 GB RAM, Radeon 6870 graphics card, and some other odds and ends. Except for switching to...

Anyone want to talk me out of buying a Crucial Tech. MX100 512GB SSD?

I am using two MX-100 512 GB drives in a Raid 0 configuration with Yosemite. I shopped around and these MX-100's are really nice, Crucial is a great brand with good online resources and tech support, and the price was really great. I have had zero issues with these. I also use a couple of San...

Clover HDMI audio for NVIDIA & AMD cards. Easy way.

I can confirm that this works on my Sandy Bridge system with Radeon 6870. Awesome! Audio out was broken with migration to Clover, now fixed using HDMI. Thanks for posting this. Very helpful!!

Running Yosemite...but only on one core

I found the problem...I guess fresh eyes make a difference! In Clover Configurator, I had Boot>cpus=1 checked. I unchecked it, updated config.plist, and rebooted. Now my four physical cores are running in both Hardware Monitor and in Activity Monitor. Geek bench 3 is now 12,216, right where...
