NootedRed — AMD Radeon Graphics — macOS Sonoma

but when i opened firefox its just crash when i enable hardware acceleration. its confusing
I use BFixup and set gfx.webrender.software to true as workaround for Firefox browser, so far work fine no issues.

Latest BFixup.kext should work for this issue without change any key on about:config.
Make sure BFixup is installed before NootedRed.

The single and multi core scores are much higher on the 5600G, but my 4700G obliterates your metal score white4line!. I would argue the 4700G got the better deal in terms of iGPU. Prices for the 4700G on eBay are generally higher than the newer generation, because they were OEM only so you couldn't pick one up from Micro Center. But they do have the better graphics.

I need more CPU power for After effects, in ae, almost all processes use cpu, just a few effects using gpu, different from premiere.
No problem so far for my projects. Unfortunately no one sell 4700G here in Indonesia. The lowest tray 5600G is around $100 new.

New update to NootedRed this morning!. The 'Add psp_cmd_km_submit pattern for macOS 14.4' edition is working fine for me on the 5700U so far.

Update. The 4700G with the latest NootedRed.kext works fine too.

psp_cmd? What is it actually?

Also I realized haven't received macos updates 14.3, any idea where should I check? Thanks

Hi there,
so what's exactly not working with AMD Ryzen APU hardware acceleration?
Thanks!

Video Decoder seems to not working

I run a Hackintosh with 5700G and NootedRed.kext
It shows in Hackintool -> System -> System Info -> VDA Decoder = Decoder Failed

I tested with Video Codec Test from Ben Software, and if I choose to Run a test using Internal Hardware (Quick Sync, Media Engine etc.) it fails with the message:
Internal hardware processing
The required video decoder was not found on your system. This usually means that your Mac does not have hardware-accelerated video processing capabilities for this codec. Skipping test.
RUN CANCELLED

When I run the tests using Software (CPU) option, I have no problems

But YouTube it is running smoothly in 4K on Safari, using VP9 codec

PS. This is what the above mentioned software reports:
Mac model: iMac20,1
macOS version: 14.3.1
CPU description: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon Graphics
CPU type: Intel
CPU nominal frequency: 3.8 GHz
CPU physical core count: 8
CPU logical core count: 16
GPU description: AMD Radeon Graphics
Available codecs: H.264, H.265, JPEG, ProRes 422 Proxy, ProRes 422 LT, ProRes 422, ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 4444

Quick Sync is never going to work with your AMD CPU/IGPU. It is an Intel feature, that only works on Intel CPU's with an IGPU. Why would you expect your AMD CPU/IGPU to work with a solely Intel feature?

MacOS and the standard software used on a Mac would expect the Intel features to be present, even if an AMD or Nvidia discrete GPU was used for the main graphics processing. So the software test failing should be expected on an AMD APU/IGPU only system.

As you quoted The AMD IGPU supports the following:
Available codecs: H.264, H.265, JPEG, ProRes 422 Proxy, ProRes 422 LT, ProRes 422, ProRes 422 HQ, ProRes 4444,

So there are enough other codecs that do work with an AMD IGPU.

This Review of the Ryzen 5 5700G over at TechPowerUp might be worth a read if you are interested in compatible test scores.

Review linked to Media Codec test page.

Hi,
has anyone succeeded in getting VDA full support for Ryzen 5 5600g with iGPU in MacOS Sonoma?

I'm not sure, someone else brought it up earlier in the thread. I found this on another system after a search.
