So I ended up picking up a PM983 U.2 3.84TB drive. Plugged into the U.2 port on the X299 Prime Deluxe it shows up in disk util, but when formatted for APFS, the computer locks up after about a minute of being logged in. I managed to reformat to HFS, and it didn't lock up. But I want to use it...
