syd,
I'm not sure what your setup is, but I have been using the Bitfenix USB 3.0 card reader in my hacks for a while now. I usually build dual-boot Windows 8.1/OS-X systems, but I don't think that would have anything to do with a card reader working or not.
I have actually tried several...
tom.humphrey,
Well, I normally always turn my system off, so it rarely sleeps. But right after the build, I did leave it on a couple times and it did go to sleep. I guess I'm not sure what made it work. It just always did. Whenever I would come back to it and hit the space bar on my keyboard...
Article: Building a CustoMac: Buyer's Guide January 2014
I have to second this question. There are numerous posts stating that Crossfire/SLI is NOT supported in OS-X, but the guide still states that multiple NVidia cards running in "tandem" is now possible. "Running in tandem" by any...
The solution for audio is to use a standard audio cable. There is a way to push audio through HDMI, but then you lose all of your controls within the OS (no volume, no mute, etc.).
I'm not sure about iCloud. Don't you have to register your Mac (which you don't do) to utilize iCloud? Actually...
I'm just glad I could help you get your system up and running. I know how frustrating it can be. No Christmas card necessary.
As for making the changes in the BIOS, I would. I make those changes for every system I've built with OS-X. If you don't, you may run into other snags down the road...
Alright. First, check what BIOS version you are on. You should be on F5. If not, download it from the Gigabyte website and update it. I believe you can update it through a utility in the BIOS, I think.
If you are already using revision F5, or after you update, locate these items in your BIOS...
Try rebooting and hit F12 again making sure you choose the "P0" SSD device. Then use the "GraphicsEnabler=No" boot flag. Let me know and we'll go from there.
I know setting the BIOS to defaults "should" work, but there are some changes that I would make if I were you. While you try this...
Choose the "P5: SanDisk SDSSDHP128G"
Also, just an FYI: your SSD should be on the first SATA port (like SATA 0). It looks like yours is on port 5. I usually reserve port 5 for an optical drive (if I use one).
OK. Try this and reply:
1. Reboot
2. At the Gigabyte logo screen, hit F12 for the boot menu
3. Choose your SSD and make sure it's NOT the UEFI version. It should start with "P0" or something like that.
Let me know and we'll go from there.
kevindosi: OK, wait a minute. I'm pretty sure I've isolated the problem. If you are going to reinstall (which is good considering all the tinkering with MultiBeast and such), here's a rundown:
1. First, pull your Wi-Fi card prior to install. Either hard-wire yourself or bypass internet access...
kevindosi: You didn't choose the Intel network driver? That may be your problem. The pics are pretty fuzzy, but I think it's saying something about not being able to contact iTunes. That would be a network issue. Boot into safe mode, re-run MultiBeast, and choose the Intel network driver. DO NOT...
kevindosi: Despite your ending message saying something about bluetooth, it's actually a graphics problem. Which version of MultiBeast are you using? I only ask becasue that halting point was getting common enough that the latest release of MultiBeast (6.0.1) includes two very important boot...
dooni: I haven't experienced snow on the screen, but I have noticed a slight hiss coming from the TV speakers that I am using as my monitor (see build description). I only notice this during the boot process, then it goes away as soon as I'm on the desktop. This is also only with OS-X, not...
Panzerino: I chose the 120M for it's very quiet operation. The pump behaves pretty much like a case fan. The harder you use it, the louder it gets. Now I know a lot of people state that you must run the pump at full speed no matter what, but I have found this to not be true. On the GA-Z87MX-D3H...
