There are many types of boards that are compatible for a hackintosh, from many different manufacturers. Each have varying levels of support in OSX. Search the User Builds section for your motherboard to see if anyone has had luck with getting it to work.
I use a 2TB WD Green drive as storage on my hackintosh. As long as your not trying to boot from it, I can't imagine that it would throw an error. Set the data drive up in disk utility after you boot up and you should be good to go.
I am cloning my drive before I attempt this, right now. I will update tonight and report. I have no issues currently with my setup (gtx970).
EDIT: Applied update and restarted. No Issues.
I don't know anything about gigabyte boards. You just want to go to the user builds section of this site and you can find out which Motherboards work. Also if you are looking for an ITX form factor board, you will also have to scour the user builds sections.

There has been some good luck with the z97 gaming motherboards from MSI. I have a link in one of my posts of my build. I had good luck with my MSI z97-g55 as well. BIOS settings are key with these (and probably) most Motherboards to get you past the first steps of install. I can't tell for sure...
SUCCESS!!!
