Hi everyone,

we’re trying to set up a hackintosh build using Mavericks and can’t get it to work.
We really hope that some of you may know what to do, since most of the components we’re using are selected based on the buyer’s guide - so some of you may have come across the same issues.

We followed the steps listed in tonymac’s “Install OS X Mavericks on Any Supported Intel-based PC”-guide using UniBeast to create a bootable USB drive containing the Mavericks setup.
Unfortunately, we can’t reach the OSX setup screen.
When booting up without any flags, we just get to see the white Apple screen and nothing happens.
When booting in verbose mode, it starts to show some command lines an then the screen turns black - there is still a video signal, but it’s just plain black (no cursor blinking etc.).
We also left the machine running at this point for some time, but nothing changed.

When booting in safe mode, the loading process lasts longer, but it still ends with the black screen.
We also tried to use different boot flags (GraphicsEnabler Yes/No, IGPEnabler Yes/No, npci=0x2000/0x3000, cpus=1) in different combinations but none seem to work.
The last line before our entered flags says: Starting Darwin x86_x64
If the very last line (containing boot-uuid and our flags) is important we’ll paste it in here too.

As the black screen appears immediately, we hat to record the monitor to even recognize the last lines.

Hardware:
CPU Intel Core i7 4820K @LGA2011
MB: Gigabyte X79S-UP5 WiFi (BIOS-Version F4)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB-Kit DDR3 (1600MHz, CL10)
Graphics: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 (2GB GDDR5)
SSD: Samsung 840Pro

Some BIOS-Settings we tried:
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) from Auto to Disabled to Enabled
C3 State Support from Auto to Disabled to Enabled
C6/C7 State Support from Auto to Disabled to Enabled
CPU EIST Function from Auto to Disabled to Enabled
XHCI and EHCI hand-off to both Disabled and Enabled.

We swapped the 760GTX with an ASUS GeForce 210 which should be compatible (and is already successfully running in a different hackintosh build (10.8.2)).

We also tried different USB drives, a different boot loader (Chameleon), but it always results in that same black screen.

Since we’re struggling for some days now we would be extremely happy if someone could provide us some hints!

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Toool

You need to make sure that you have

this entered in your

org.chameleon.Boot.plist

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>-f npci=0x3000</string>

if you use a 760 Nvidia card you need GRAPHICS ENABLER set to NO

for most EARLIER nvidia cards you need GRAPHICS ENABLE set to YES

ALSO MAKE SURE that you have

VoodooTSCSync.kext

placed in either your EXTRA folder or install it into SYSTEM/LIBRARY/EXTENSIONS folder

SOMETIMES you do need to wait a short while after the BLACK SCREEN COMES but primarily this is cause if you do not have

<string>-f npci=0x3000</string>

entered in your boot file

using GRAPHICS ENABLER can be confusing as EARLIER Nvidia cards NEED it and LATER cards do NOT 470 needs it for instance and any 6## or 7## does not

Hope this helps.....I had exactly the same problem as you and the problem was resolved in the way I have detailed

Mavericks or Mountain Lion cannot handle a 6 core processor without

VoodooTSCSync.kext
