GA-Z97X-UD7 TH (rev. 1.0) Success with OS do?

It looks to me like there are being brought up problems that have already been addressed and solved in this very thread.

Why would you log on, do a search, go into this thread, and then NOT read it and ask already asked questions?

Stuff like that makes it intensely difficult to actually follow a thread and keep track of the solutions for a novice like me. I'm building my first machine and this clutter is kinda messing up this very good thread on this fantastic forum.

I've had success with that mobo on both Mavericks(10.9.5) as well as ML(10.8.5). I've resolved just about all issues I have read, including freezing keyboard and mouse(ML), long boot times, boring in safe mode, the trim enabler, the 01error when using a SSD, etc, etc... If you have any specific questions about anything maybe I can be of help. The only thing I cannot get is audio out in ML 10.8.5. I had it in 10.9, but cannot get it in Mountain Lion. Also I'd be curious to hear other peoples stories/solutions as far as getting thunderbolt happening.

I am having the boot time issue. It takes over a minute for my system too boot on an SSD. How did you fix it?

Thanks for the post of this board, I bought the same board and install OSX follow your post, it works perfect, but I want to ask who have try to connect a thunderbolt dock to this board? can solve the problem of hot plug? thx...

This is my first CustoMac/Hackintosh and I opted for this MB (rev 1.0). I can confirm I have a bare bones install up and running in Yosemite 10.10.2.

I initially tried to install with Clover, but despite my efforts I could not even reach the installation screen.

I decided to use UniBeast and MultiBeast instead. Like others have posted, I found the process using UniBeast a breeze by following the guide including the BIOS settings it suggests.

I ran UniBeast with the following flags: -v -x maxmem=8192 npci=0x2000

I will post my MultiBeast config file later when I am home from work. I installed with the Intel HD 4600 onboard graphics (GTX-970 is arriving tomorrow!) and had no issues with the onboard graphics installing. i5-4690K processor with a single stick of Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB RAM at the moment (will be adding more later).

Thunderbolt is not working yet, I am going to play with that this weekend. Not tested HDMI sound as I have an optical digital sound system. I can confirm that the optical digital sound is working without a hitch.

Windows 7 will be installed this weekend too. Thanks for this thread and everyones help here.

Hi,

Thank you to everyone for this great site with lots of useful help.

I have installed my first system with this motherboard as an audio workstation to run Pro Tools 10 and 11 on Mavericks. After lots of trial and error, all is running great without freezes etc, However the only thing I am confused and worried about is the power management.

I initially installed NullCPUPowerManagement kext as I was experiencing random freezes. However I suspected that this was not really a good solution, so I am back with the Native AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement kext (I realised that I made some mistakes in the Bios). So now I'm back to the optimised defaults (F7) with only the following changes:

M.I.T:
Advanced memory settings XMP to: Profile 1

Advanced Frequency settings - Advanced CPU core settings
Intel Turbo Boost: disabled
This is because I experienced a hanging boot due to clash with generate C and P states in chameleon.plist

Bios features:
Changed boot order and disabled non boot disks

CPU - VT-d: disabled

Peripherals:

Intel Processor Graphics: disabled

Thunderbolt security to Legacy

Wake from TH device to disabled

Power Management:

Wake on Lan disabled

The problem is that whenever I do some intense processing (e.g. video conversion) the processor cores overheat (as per HWMonitor). The speed is going up to 44x and temperatures get up to 80 degrees.

I'm not an expert, but I assume that this is to do with the cpu power management / speed stepping not working correctly. I have read many threads, but not sure what to do. Do I need the 'patched' version of the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement kext. from multi beast or is that 'old hat' / not relevant anymore. The aim is to run a stable machine, I am not bothered about over clocking at the moment. I also don't require sleep/wake modes to work as this is generally disabled anyway in Sys Prefs on Mac OS for music workstations.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to get the OS / Mavericks to restrict the CPU speed?

Hello! I did everything you said up above about installing thunderbolt... My mobo is the ga z97x ud7 Th ...
My thunderbolt is working but it's recognized as PCI (using an UAD APOLLO and it's recognized as universal audio apollo - PCI)... Do you know if this is normal? Do you know if even like that the thunderbolt works properly? Thanks a lot...

Yes, you need to install the Gigabyte Thunderbolt drivers, which means Windows needs to be installed as well.. Once the driver is loaded, I believe a Thunderbolt device needs to be detected in Windows first before Thunderbolt capabilty is 'unlocked' in OS X (I have used a device as simple as an Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter to achieve this) . Once this occurs, you would no longer need to boot into Windows and you could completely remove it from your machine with no ill-effect.

Also Windows does not need to be activated to install drivers, so you can use any Windows 7 disc or an ISO file which is available for free download from Microsoft..

Good luck and let us know how this works out!

Could you explain your fixes for freezing mouse/keyboard, and unable to boot without safe mode/stuck at white apple screen without safe mode?
