I have an i5 4530s and USB 3.0 is working great. I got it to work with the 6.1 beta I thinks..

Everything works great for me. I updated my probook earlier with the 10.8.5 update package and then ran 6.1.4....

I ran 6.1.4 with os x support kexts and atheros patch only after update 10.8.5 (not combo) on my 10.8.4. Works perfect for me. Thanks!

Well, I'm definitely seeing it in Software Update on my desktop, and I'm pretty sure I saw it on the ProBook. And 10.8.5 is definitely out. See the sticky guide for procedures and download links.

on the 10.8.4 system the s/w update still tells me there no updates available. not sure if this is just a bug, or a strange bug.

Seems like 10.8.5 is mainly appealing to those who would want to build systems on Haswell architecture without workarounds. I've tried doing some research and still can't find any reason to upgrade. I'm pretty excited about some of the features coming in Mavericks though, especially the native customization of menu/dock on any connected monitors. It's another big step towards the ultimate return to terminal/mainframe design strategies that seems to be looming ahead in the future, what with the cloud and tiny desktop-computing class devices like iPhone 5S and Ubuntu Touch.

Thanks though for confirming it will be safe to attempt to use that kext to get USB 3.0 on my ProBook finally. I'll have to do some more research as to which controllers are on the two desktops (and the third I built for my boss), thanks for the word of warning RehabMan.

Oh, and if anyone ever hears of a super, super low profile USB 3.0 or HDMI L-adapter, let me know! I've bought one of each that were both not low profile enough to squeeze into the gap between where my Firewire expresscard starts to expand and the side of the ProBook.

Maybe I should give up this quest and instead look for another Firewire expresscard that gives you a large enough gap for these adapters to fit.

If I can solve this last problem I will have tweaked my ProBook completely to satisfaction (aside from possible monitor and CPU upgrades, but those kinds of projects make me pretty nervous to do on a machine I have come to really depend on).

Did they change AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement in 10.8.5 ? I have no access to Pacifist right now.
