10.8.5 Update Available

I just install the latest GenericUSBXHCI and all USB 3 works fine, but the USB 2.0 ports still can't detect Mouse (USB 3.0 ports works).
About the SMC errors log, it only happens when I open iStatMenu application with Sensor option. Just close the app and done!

I have to ask this here from time to time: Does GenericUSBXHCI.kext work *stably* for USB 3.0 on OSX 10.8.4? Can it be trusted to not randomly eject external drives, possibly permanently corrupting (all) data in the process?

I feel like I've been waiting forever for USB 3.0 on my ProBook, not to mention the 2 desktop Hackintoshes I'm using.

Would love to finally be able to trust it for the added speed in transfers it provides!

i have usb3 on three hacks: an MSI B75A with onboard usb3; an MSI H61M with a usb3 PCI-e card, and my probook 4530s with an express card usb3 adaptor (my probook model does not have onboard usb3).

all three perform fine with the GenericUSBXHCI.kext.

i just saw news about the update 10.8.5 and reading up on how to update, but on my probook hack when i go to apple/software update on the desktop (10.8.4) to check for updates, it says there's no updates available.

My other testing hdd with osx 10.8.4 partition is in storage, so I'm using a production/daily system and don't want to mess it up, better to hold on a bit longer to 10.8.4 before updating to 10.8.5?

Well, I'm definitely seeing it in Software Update on my desktop, and I'm pretty sure I saw it on the ProBook. And 10.8.5 is definitely out. See the sticky guide for procedures and download links.

That's up to you. As always, you will want to have a backup.

In regards to the SMC fall back console message, I can confirm that it occurs on some real Macs as well. It was also present after 10.7.4 and is currently present on the next release of OS X. Everything works fine, but, if you're really that bothered by it, you can use the AppleSMC from 10.8.4. I do not recommend rollbacks, however.

Rehabman, looking at your signiture, it appears you have updated to 10.8.5?

Can you confirm your method of upgrading, including kexts to backup, and confirm if its actually worth doing? Any noticable changes good or bad?

I'm just wondering if its worth just holding out for mavericks if there are issues.

Cheers

The method for updating is documented in the 'sticky guide' in the Updates section.

I haven't noticed any differences.

thanks, i'll also put the 10.8.5 update on hold for the production/daily system.

side note: i did do a full test backup/restore (apps and user data), its as fast as watching grass grow.

Everything works great for me. I updated my probook earlier with the 10.8.5 update package and then ran 6.1.4. On the first reboot I didn't have any mouse or keyboard control. I rebooted with:

UseKernelCache=No -v

Rebooted perfectly. Rebooted again to get out of verbose mode and now I'm good. Thanks!
