Well done, as always. You would be very safe in adding all the variants of the GA-B75M series of motherboards. They all work. The reason I say this is that the D3H, D3V, and H3D all cost less than the D3P, which makes them very appropriate for your budget CustoMac. My two cents worth. :)

If I want to build a fast system but I am not interested in overclocking or any of that kind of mucking around, does it make sense to get anything more than an i7-3770 (vs an i7-3770K) and a GA-Z77-DS3H (vs a GA-Z77-UD5H or better)?

I am really not interested in overclocking, and I could buy a bigger SSD or faster GPU with the money I save.

Otherwise, is there a downside to not buying the better CPU and motherboard?

Last month I bought and set up a CustoMac mini and while I am really happy with everything, in retrospect I would probably go for the mATX system. The Bitfenix case is kind of cool looking but it's really wide and takes up more room than the mATX case recommended (Fractal Design). At that point, just get the bigger mobo with more PCIs. Anyway that's my two cents.

Is there any difference in terms of mac compatibility between the Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 and the Gigabyte GA-X79S-UP5 ?

Hi

Just wondering if there are any digital TV tuners that are native or compatible with modifications? Thanks!

Is the 650 ti overclocked edition supported natively?

possible to highlight changes ie: a 'new' logo new.jpg then we can scan quickly and see anything new has been added.

Just an idea. - I do look forward to seeing the list every month, its wonderful.

As stated:

For this month's guide we've maintained our basic recommendations, while adding with the new NVIDIA GeForce 650 Ti Boost graphics card. We've also added our top pick for a natively supported USB webcam.

Look at elgato website there is a list of tv tuners(sat and dtt) compatible with eyetv for mac osx.

This is a very good list - and a seriously good source of info for people considering embarking on a new build.

There are always questions about alternative hardware but the point is - if you want a minimum fuss customac build it makes sense to go for compatible items, or items as near to compatible as possible. Only if you are very experienced should you be trying to get obscure, unsupported items working. They need a lot of tweaking.

After all Apple never gave us so much choice, did they? You had what you were given and that was it!

;-)
