10.8.2 running here as well, no issues at all.

Hey guys,

First of all thanks for this great guide, this is all completely new to me and this let me get Mountain Lion running (almost) flawlessly.

I have everything working, Icloud, App Store, etc.

I have a few questions...

1. I dual boot Windows 7 and Mountain Lion. I can't boot from the hard drive (installed Chimera) without the Iboot disk in the disk drive. I still boot from the hard drive, but it only works if that disk is in there. Any ideas on getting it to boot without the disk? Not a major issue really, but it'd be nice.

2. My XPS 8300 came with 2 500gb drives. They're setup as RAID under my system settings, and I've used them for awhile as an exclusive Windows 7 setup. Windows won't boot when BIOS is set to AHCI. And ML (on a separate drive) won't boot for RAID. So I have to change system settings to boot one or the other. It'd be awesome to be able to boot either without changing settings. I always thought AHCI = RAID but doesn't seem so. I don't want to have to risk losing everything on my Windows machine to make it AHCI compatible. Any ideas here?

3. Every time I boot into OSX I get an "Unsupported Video Card!" message before boot. Graphics work fine, wondering if this is anything to worry about?

All of these are minor issues that I can live with, but it'd be cool to know if anyone else experienced them and if any solutions are out there. Beyond that - THANK YOU - for this guide. I'd never even considered a Hackintosh and now I'm really liking it a lot. And this made it easy. Much appreciated!

Hello everybody!

I'm a bit new to the Hackintosh-World but gave myself a try, after I found Grave's great tutorial. I thought: hey, you own that Dell 8300 - so give it a try ... Unfortunately I did not bring it to work.

First of all, here are my Dell's specs:

Dell XPS 8300
i7 2600 3,4GHz
8 GB RAM
Realtek Audio and Broadcom Ethernet onBoard
NVIDIA Geforce GT 530 1GB
Corsair Force3 SSD 120 GB
(if more info is needed, please ask...)

Well, I started with following Grave's Lion tutorial for the XPS 8300 and finally got to the post-Installation Point. Then I wanted to complete the Setup with multibeast, but after rebooting I was not able to boot the System again. Read some Workarounds for that issue and found out, that I was still able to boot from the USB installer, but then did not manage to get the System running as described in Grave's tut.
After several more tries, I decided to check out the Mountain Lion Installation.

All in all I mostly ended up in kernel Panic after booting, sometimes "Error 0" issue, which I was not able to fix as it is described in some Workarounds in www...

Generally my question is now:
- is there anybody out there with same Dell XPS spec (maybe most important: graphics?!) and has got experience with the Installation of Lion/Mountain Lion on that System?
- anybody seeing what went wrong with my Installation? ... what is the reason for that kernel Panic and / or the issue "booting only possible via USB" ...

Any help and / or comment is highly appreciated!
Thank you in advance for your Support!

Hi there,

this is my first post but I hope that I can help you.
So have to say that I have quiet the same specs except the SSD.

I just installed ML on my XPS 8300 with a Unibeast created 10.8.0 Retail ML.dmg

All works fine BUT sometimes it happens that I don´t come to the LogIn-Screen after the grey boot screen.
Don´t know why.
Sometimes have to reboot only once, other times about ten times...

Hope that anyone have a solution for me. Maybe the GT 530 making problems?

And Fred if you need some help please feel free to contact me. ;)

Brgds,

Does the 10.8.2 Supplemental Update 1.0 cause any problems? I haven't updated yet for fear of wrecking my setup.

Hello, I have just finished my Hackintosh install on a xps 8300. Everything worked out. I have been running it for about 3 days and each day I have had an issue with the network connection. I leave the machine run for around 3 to 5 hours and when I come back to it no network access. I have a brodcom NIC that came standard with the machine. I used this Kext BCM5722d.KEXT and it worked but I still get the network dorps, i do know that is the correct kext.

Any advice on how or why this happens.

Thanks

I was getting the same thing with the onboard ethernet card. It would drop especially when downloading large files which would then require a reboot. Most of the onboard NICs have these issues it seems. I purchased the Rosewill RC-401-EX Network Card Gigabit Low Profile 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI-Express 1 x RJ45 from newegg.com and it works flawlessly. It uses the Marvel chipset which is natively supported by Mountain Lion out of the box. Here is the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833166015
Twenty bones isn't such a bad deal for an otherwise stable hackintosh build. Sonos makes a card with the Marvel chipset as well but is twice the price and uses the exact same chipset. Hope this helps.
