Article: OS X 10.8.2 Update

Even booting with -x always stuck at white screen (ATI HD6670) because the new ati kexts...

Before update, I saved a copy of the folder Extensions of my working 1.8.1 in other partition. Started from Windows 7 partition (McDrive installed) and copy-pasted my previous AtiController6000.kext and AppleHDA.kext and AppleACPIPlatform.kext (allways saved from previous version) in S/L/E.

NO OemSMBIOS.kext removed.

Rebooted with Unibeast usb to repair permissions. Finally rebooted with UseKernelCache=No and all worked like a charm...

Even if you don't save your previous ACPI kext (bad done BTW) you can download from here (attached)

Hope it helps.

B.R.

Good WORKING THANK YOU

I am in same boat. I have GA-Z77X-UP5 TH and everything is great, except no audio. Followed instructions to install the Realtex ALC8XX without DSDT: ALC898 and no luck. In the system report I see the Intel High Definition Audio and all the connectors (line output) but it doesn't show in the sound devices.

Anyone help? I am on the latest bios for the board and don't have any other issues. It worked before the update.

Thanks,
-Alex-

I fixed the audio by deleting the AppleHDA.kext, and any and all of the HDAEnabler8xx.kexts from the system/library/extensions directory. BEFORE I rebooted I made sure to use Multibeast to install the proper Realtek Audio (898) for the Z77x-UP5. Then reboot and all is good.

Thanks,
-Alex-

I don't have a Plugins folder in FakeSMC.kext file but my system still keeps KP'ing at OemSMBIOS. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I think the reason why this happens could be that you haven´t been booting with -x as you removed that plugin.
It happened to me during a clean unibeast install of 10.8.2 when I decided to get rid of the plugin right after I had installed fakeSMC and it´s plugins with multibeast - without intermediate reboot with -x.
Thereafter it was still kept in backtrace although it was not present in S/L/E/FakeSMC...

So what helped me was to reinstall FakeSMC and it´s plugins again - reboot normally just to make shure it will keep it in backtrace again - reboot again with -x and delete the plugin - reboot normally. Et voila...

Got grey screen with endless spinning wheel here too. Booted off my backup install and renamed AppleRTC.kext to AppleRTC.kext.old to resolve the issue. Lost audio as well.

I got the spinning apple screen from built in updater.. went back to 10.8.1, installed my old kexts file everything is back. Will try again after next week... no deadlines..

Updated fine from 10.8.2 (12C53)

Installed Update (combo) rebooted with -f -x to avoid FakeSMC.kext/Contents/Plugins/OemSMBIOS.kext Panic

Used KextBeast to replace:

AppleACAPIPlatform.kext (to prevent OEMSMBios Panic and still be able to use smbios.plist to set your system info/serial)
AudioHDA.kext (http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/67763-ml-optimized-realtek-applehda-preview-alpha.html)

Re-enabled TRIM support for non Apple SSD's in IOAHCIFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext

Make backup:
Code:
sudo cp /System/Library/Extensions/IOAHCIFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/Contents/MacOS/IOAHCIBlockStorage /System/Library/Extensions/IOAHCIFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/Contents/MacOS/IOAHCIBlockStorage.original

Enable TRIM:
Code:
sudo perl -pi -e 's|(\x52\x6F\x74\x61\x74\x69\x6F\x6E\x61\x6C\x00{1,20})[^\x00]{9}(\x00{1,20}\x4D)|$1\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00$2|sg' /System/Library/Extensions/IOAHCIFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/Contents/MacOS/IOAHCIBlockStorage

I have attached the above mentioned AppleACAPIPlatform.kext that allows smbios.plist to work without OEMSMBios Panic.

After Auto update, I got the evil spinning wheel when boot. Glad this worked for me :)

Have just updated to 10.8.2 on my ASUS P8P67 Pro (Rev 3.1). After reading most of the comments I decided to go with a straightforward "System Update" from the app store. After a few tense seconds waiting for the spinning wheel to stop spinning, I booted straight into my upgraded Mountain Lion with ease. The only settings I had to redo were the ticks in the boxes in Multibeast for ALC8xxHDA, AppleHDARollback and ALC892. If anything my new system is working better than before, and the previous problems I had with a hissing sound on my audio has gone !
