Stuck at Black Screen After Booting Up?

Windows won't be able to read your mac partition. Use rBoot or Unibeast to boot into your mac partition and make changes. Like I said, DSDT graphics edits work best if you have already managed to get your graphics to work flawlessly prior to making the edit.

Na my windows reads both my drives fine, I use MacDrive to read all of my Drives on Windows. I managed to delete the whole Extra folder and copied the one from another one I had, but it boots back in the Black screen again. At least I got away from it not getting past the Grey Apple screen.

Oh nice! I'll have to check MacDrive out. I've been a mac guy my whole life, so I am not aware of these tricks! :)

You could try the EFI string I posted a few posts up. Use that with GraphicsEnabler=no. Also won't hurt reinstalling the drivers. If anything, they will help you.

Well I added the edited DSDT in and still black screen. Now it wont even get past the Grey Apple screen, Just keeps spinning on both of my drives. I'm pretty much stuck now. Don't know what else to do. I can try a few more little things if I can even get back in. Might have to go to my Windows partiton and copy and paste original DSDT and see if that works.

Ok, I checked over your IOREG info again to make sure the DSDT edit is correct, and I found two differences. According to your IOREG, the NVCAP value in the DSDT is wrong. I also noticed that in the guide I posted on page 1 for adding the card to your DSDT, it shows this parameter in the code:

Code:
                                "device_type",
                                Buffer (0x0D)
                                {
                                    "NVDA,GeForce"
                                },

but when looking in your IOREG, it shows that it should be set to this:

Code:
                                "device_type",
                                Buffer (0x0C)
                                {
                                    "NVDA,Parent"
                                },

I fixed both of those issues in the DSDT. This could very well be why the DSDT fix isn't working. The proper NVCAP value is very important for sure.

Try this new one and if you're still stuck at a black screen, then someone smarter than me needs to give you advice :)

Good Luck!

P.S. I also agree with sjvintage that reinstalling the drivers is a good idea.

Yeah, it's a pretty cool software, it's helped me in the past, I love Apple and that's all I use for everyday use. But when I do need to use Windows for certain things. I like to keep all of my Drives formatted for Apple and when I need to use them on Win, I used MacDrive and it works well.

I'll try out both options, I'll try the other DSDT edit and then if that doesn't work I'll try what you had mentioned. Thanks again for the help.

Anthony.

Oh ok, I will try that out and report back. Thanks

Anthony.

Well I'm happy to report back that the DSDT Edit works great for my graphics. I was getting a CMOS restart but it would bring me to my Best Known Settings, so I clicked that, it didn't do it after a previous restart, so maybe that's ok now. My main concern now is getting sound and network working again. I just tried these for the first attempt (see screen shots) The first one I tried for sound - ALC88 Legacy and it didn't work as it never has in the past for me. So second time around I tried this one - Unified Device Injector.

Ok so Network works with the second option

Sound still does not work. I don't know why they say it works with ALC88 none of the version in Multibeast have ever worked. I had to go to that OSx86 site and download some Snow Leopard driver that I can't find now, that was the only one that worked for me. I have a Presonus Firestudio and that works fine, but I would also like to get onboard working again. I can't use Voodoo with my Presonus drivers installed or else I get a KP at start up. So Voodoo is out of the question.

Anything you guys could throw my way for getting sound working correctly. This has been an issue with me since I first built the thing.

Great, I'm glad to hear it's finally working for you. You really shouldn't be getting a CMOS reset with that DSDT because it's the F11 version patched by Macman and downloaded from the DSDT database. All I did is add the Graphics card edit to it. Post back again if you continue to get the CMOS reset.

I don't really know about a solution for your audio, toleda is the audio master here so maybe you can try to get him to help you with it. I know he has several audio threads on here, so try to find one for audio support.

I think when using the Unified Device Injector, you also have to install the AppleHDA rollback in order for it to work. Did you also try the ALC888 Current version?

Hello folks
I'd like to share my knowledges about black screen after booting. I have 2 pcs, one of them has 2 pci-ex slots and another one single pci-ex slot(16x). I got black screen on both pcs in 10.8. I tried alot of stuff, messing with bootloaders, dsdt and so on. And i came to 2 solutions, first it s pciroot=1\0 in your chameleon plist, so just try both of them and it might help you. The other solution on pc with 1 pci-ex was unrecognized NVCAP on my gts 250. I simply replug video out from vga-hdmi-dvi to get where it works, and kept it in dvi.
