Gigabyte Z690 Aero G + i5-12600K + AMD RX 6800 XT

Ok, I am still struggling with my build, so I have set aside the 6650 graphics card, and went with this one:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09H3NX9HZ/?tag=tonymacx86com-20 and as it is a "plane jane" 6600 it should work just fine with Ventura, correct?

As of right now, I am on F22 BIOS. Is everyone having good luck with it, or should I try reverting back again?

I am going to start from scratch and re-build a completely clean USB installer. What version of OpenCore should I use? 88? All the details here are helpful, but with so many updates along the way since the start of this particular build it is somewhat hard to discern where to start, and what to skip along the way, IMHO. For example, do I use the original config.plist and then upgrade it? Perhaps I went wrong with my first attempt somehow along the way...

PowerColor is a very good choice for AMD GPUs. This one should be plug-and-play (no SSDT or other spoofing needed). Just need boot argument agdpmod=pikera

Because you're on 12th Gen, I would suggest BIOS F7 to start with.

Rebuilding the OpenCore EFI folder may not be necessary. Feel free to post a compressed copy of your EFI folder (with serial numbers removed) so we can audit and/or make recommendations.

Anyone have luck spoofing a 7900 XT as yet? I got one at a good deal so I grabbed it, tried it and Mac does not boot with it

What do you expect? No real Mac ships with a Navi3 GPU and there are no drivers for it.
MacOS does have a driver for some Navi2 GPUs, namely RX 6800/6900 (Navi 21) and RX 6600 (Navi23); in the middle of those there is a RX 6700 (Navi22) and no-one has managed to make this variation on Navi2 work in macOS. So a new architecture…
Unless Apple releases a W7900X MPX module for the current MacPro—the last standing Intel-based Mac—, you're out of luck.

Thank you very much. Please see attached. I sure would appreciate an inspection of this and a sanity check to make sure I am not missing anything. I might have missed that boot argument. Can you please remind me where I put that?

I couldn't get the installer to boot as it is now and with a 6650 card.

I have an Intel i9 CPU, so I don't think a BIOS of F7 is going to work. In fact I know it won't unless there is something I do not know. I tried F7 and F8, and it wouldn't POST. I think that has to do with support that was added for the i9?

Have you tried turning these 3 off in debug? My Z690 Aero D won't boot with these on for some reason with my RX6950XT. When I had the 6800XT I used to have them on and had no issues. I am not sure if it makes a difference but for me I can't boot with it on.

We can also boot into Ventura's Recoverypartition from OpenCore boot picker (press spacebar when boot picker appears), then reinstall Ventura over the existing installation
  • Make a full Ventura backup before doing this
Just rebooted to Ventura Recovery and tried to reinstall macOS, but a message saying "Internet connection is required to install macOS". Seems Recovery couldn't detect my Ethernet. However, if I boot to Monterey Recovery, I can reinstall macOS without any problem.

Hi, I just want to ask about the performance of Final Cut Pro in this build. How is it?

The Problem seems to occur when you enable above 4GB encoding and above 4GB MMIO BIOS assignment. This appears to be true on both the Z690 and Z790 Aero motherboards. I have had the problem you describe on both boards and disabling 4GB MMIMO BIOS solves the problem. My Z690 has an i7-12700KF and a Radeon RX 5700XT and the Z790 has an i7-13700KF and a Radeon RX 6900XT.

I also have sleep issues if 4GB MIMO BIOS is enabled. After the second or third sleep cycle, the computer wakes up but the displays do not and my usb FocusRite sound interface does not wake up.

So, even with the "4G MMIO BIOS" disabled, which does appear to improve performance, still getting the occasional Windows Server crash and logout. I would think the hardware can handle it and it has to be something config related, since 6600XT and i5-12600kf should be g2g. Should I just upload my config.plist stripped of PII and my BIOS settings for folks here to review? I'm convinced there's something I'm doing wrong. I'm not running heavy duty stuff... Spotify, a few active web browsers with maybe 50 tabs total between them, and Visual Studio Code are enough to cause Windows Server to crash. I'm open to hardware upgrades as well now that I'm running F22 if that's the best route forward for stability. Any thoughts on next steps?

Interesting you are still having trouble. Both of my machines are working well. No sleep issues at all and no Windows Server issues. What is different about both my machines is that the internal wi-fi/bluetooth module is replaced with the FENVI macOS compatible module and internal lan is disabled and replaced with a NICGIGA 2.5G Base-T PCIe Network Adapter, Realtek RTL8125B 2.5Gbps. I could not get either of the built-ins to work satisfactorily. I had sleep issues, Bluetooth freeze-ups and the NIC had terrible download/upload speeds. I am using CaseySJ's EFI with minor modifications and I upgraded to OC 0.90. The Z790 Aero G/i7-13700 KF also has GC-Titan Ridge TB flashed which is also working fine. Using BIOS F5. On the Z690 Aero G using BIOS F22. I can post my EFI if you would like. They are exactly the same for both.
