Asus Z690 ProArt Creator WiFi (Thunderbolt 4) + i7-12700K + AMD RX 6800 XT

This is how mine looks on Big Sur 11.6.1 consistently, I didn't realize it wasn't normal for the Thunderbolt section to be there?! I have my Firewire interface plugged in via Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter and as long as the interface is on, the bus always appears.

I don't have any hotpluggable devices to test the hotplug unfortunately.

I have noticed that the bus does not appear in the Thunderbolt section consistently when my interface is not plugged in. Sometimes the Thunderbolt PCI devices don't appear, or the controller's driver doesn't show as installed.

(I am happy that Thunderbolt is working consistently for my interface, as it frees me from having to add a Firewire card and take up a PCIe slot!) :)
Now I can reboot!

** Am I Dreaming? **

In order to determine if the Aquantia AQC113C on Asus ProArt Z690 Creator is compatible with Big Sur, I just performed a fresh installation of Big Sur 11.6 using the standard EFI 0.7.8 folder for this build. This EFI configuration spoofs the Thunderbolt NHI device ID to Titan Ridge 0x15eb.

Immediately after finishing the "Welcome" wizard and getting to the Big Sur desktop, I installed IORegistryExplorer and I can hardly believe my eyes:
  • Thunderbolt Bus is active
  • Hot plug works multiple times
  • No sleep/wake cycle needed
  • System Information --> Thunderbolt shows information about the Bus, with vendor = ASUS.
Caveats:
  • System Information --> Thunderbolt section does not show connected Thunderbolt devices ("No device connected")
  • System Information --> Thunderbolt section does not seem to show correct Speed
P.S. I am too scared to reboot! Don't know if Thunderbolt Bus will reappear...

Is this with the HotPlug SSDT that spoofs Titan Ridge's Device ID?? (SSDT-MAPLE-RIDGE-RP05-V2.aml)

After fixing the NVRAM variable I installed Monterey 12.3 beta. The “10 minutes remaining” countdown came back (hooray) and there are no graphics glitches.

The only lingering issue I still see is slow/sluggish resizing of the System Information window.
Metal scores are still miserable... unless GB needs to be updated.

Now I can reboot!
Yes, Thunderbolt Bus is still present after reboot and the Thunderbolt/USB4 page is correctly populated!

@CaseySJ,
I see my Gigabyte Z690 Aero G with the Maple Ridge card working if I'm reading your posts correctly. Can you please try this TB4 on your Z690 Aero G?

This is crazy! I believe I have stumbled on to something Thunderbolt related as well after installing the new Monterey public beta. I'll get into that later.

So, since my first boot with this motherboard, my Thunderbolt devices were fully recognized without Thunderbolt bus, which has been the exception not the rule. On Titan Ridge, I needed to have the Thunderbolt bus to get UltraFine and Caldigit dock to fully work.

I did not need that with on board Maple Ridge. My problem is that my Maple Ridge will up and disappear... even in Windows. Vanished. I've really been contemplating returning the board to NewEgg. I need to do more testing, but I think I may have figured something out. I'll report back. Does the excitement never cease?

This is with Big Sur 11.6, which I can install on the Gigabyte Z690 Aero G and see what happens. I believe others have tried this without success. We might be seeing something that is specific to Asus and only with Big Sur. Nevertheless, I'll install Big Sur on the Gigabyte to confirm.

Just to be clear: You installed Big Sur with existing OpenCore Config and got the Thunderbolt Bus activated via Marple Ridge with spoofed with Titan Ridge without patching it? Or is Marple Ridge patched on your board? If not, this would be freaking awesome.

No firmware patching at all. Yes it's fracking awesome! But it does not work in Monterey.

Update:
  • Just upgraded from Big Sur 11.6 to 11.6.4 and Thunderbolt Bus is still active and functioning.
