New MBP has a "Camera notch" like the iPhone 12/13.

On the other hand, Pat Gelsinger (CEO of Intel) is publicly hoping to win back Apple's business. So will the Hackintosh get a second wind?
The article misses a point. Apple, Inc. is a big, BIG enterprise, not an "agile" startup. It has huge intertia and takes time and effort to change course. Apple is going AppleSilicon and dropping Apple. It doesn't matter if Intel can, at some point in the future, offer chips that perform as well as Apple Silicon. It doesn't matter if Intel can somewhat beat AppleSilicon (and I doubt Intel could, especially on the efficiency front). Intel would have to massively surpass AppleSilicon for Apple to change course. Or AppleSilicon has to fail to deliver.
As it seems, AppleSilicon is NOT failing to deliver.

Positive points for me so far: SD card, HDMI and MagSafe are back in MacBook Pro.

Negative points: It is very clear that Apple is strongly heading back to the unified memory architecture of good old NeXT or Silicon Graphics workstations. With soldered-in memory, and maximal RAM capacity tied to the CPU model.
That's certainly excellent in laptops. But I expect desktops to be somewhat expansible and reconfigurable to adjust over time; that would take a very different CPU that what Apple is delivering with the current M family.

m1 pro and m1 max. Promotion. 32 core GPU. 64 GB Ram. Mini Led display.

Hackintosh, it's been a good ride... but 2021 is the year that I move on.

This may well be my jumping-in point into the world of Apple Silicon. Every rumor sounds yummy, but the two (rumored) announcements I'm most excited about are:
  • New Mac mini
  • New 14" MacBook Pro
Though I would also love to see an Apple-branded Thunderbolt display to accompany the new Mac mini...

This is it Casey. Apple just dropped an Atomic bomb on the rest of the industry.

Someone, hide my credit cards ! Resistance is so difficult.

We haven't even heard any mention of prices yet. They ain't gonna be cheap. No price reductions this time.

Prices: Not bad!! $1999 for 14" and $2499 for 16". I was expecting much higher. But these are base prices...

Agreed. A BEAST has been UNLEASHED. I am extremely impressed. About to hit the Buy Button. To copy-paste from my post above:
  • ProMotion 120Hz.
  • Mini LED.
  • 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports.
  • HDMI, SD Card, MagSafe, Headphone with high-impedance support.
  • Both 14" and 16" configurable with either M1 Pro or M1 Max.
  • PCIe 4.0 speeds on NVMe SSDs (7.4 GB/sec).
  • Up to 64GB memory at 400GB/s.

But no Mac mini????
