The new SoC may feature “eight high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores for a total of 10.” The current M1 chip in the Mac mini features four high-performance cores and four energy-efficient cores. With such power, this new machine will likely replace the 3.0GHz 6-core 8th-generation Intel Core i5 model.
The current M1 is already better then 8th gen 6core/12thread I7 model.

Thats a direct quote from the MacWorld article by Mike Simon. He's probably trying to say that the new M1X will lead to Apple discontinuing the 6 core Intel model. They'll keep the M1 as the base model.

I’ve been hacking for years… since back before we knew we needed a Kext (like FakeSMC) for bypassing DSMOS.kext.

But when these new MacBooks go on sale, I am definitely getting one. I have a feeling that my hacking days are numbered… it’s been an incredible run. The process of building custom USB port maps to stay within the 15 port limit, hacking a SSDT to enable thunderbolt hot plug, and so on has been incredibly fun.

We will have to see how Alder Lake, Raptor Lake, Meteor Lake perform and whether those platforms will boot macOS. But I have a feeling that what will end up happening is my Macbook M1x will be for day-to-day macOS, and my PC build will be for gaming. I’ll likely build a Raptor Lake or Meteor Lake small form factor build, and retire my O11-dynamic XL case.

Time to move on.

Remember they are still selling the Intel Xeon version for those that need over 1TB of ram.
No video/grapchic/render apps may need over 128 GB RAM .
Servers works mostly on Linux sometimes on Windows.
Apple MacPro 2019 offer with 192 GB and higher is for nobody (
Much better solution would be X299 successor chipset/CPUs (X399) .
Now X299 CPUs have similar performance like Xeon but they are a couple
of times cheaper. Also nowadays no need ECC Registered RAM - this
increases the price of memory.

This is interesting. Just checked the "Buy Mac Pro" page on the Apple store, this is what comes up.
Could today be the day the Mac Pro Xeon refresh is announced ?

This may well be my jumping-in point into the world of Apple Silicon. Every rumor sounds yummy, but the two (rumored) announcements I'm most excited about are:
  • New Mac mini
  • New 14" MacBook Pro
Though I would also love to see an Apple-branded Thunderbolt display to accompany the new Mac mini...

On the other hand, Pat Gelsinger (CEO of Intel) is publicly hoping to win back Apple's business. So will the Hackintosh get a second wind?

Focus of today's event is "Music" Definitely going to be a Mac mini refresh announced.
