I can tell by the lack of "noise" that we are all impressed with the new offerings?

Apple Watch Series 6, Apple Watch SE, Apple Fitness+, the new iPad Air and iPad, and Apple One

Apple Watch SE seemed like an unusual move. But perhaps understandable and maybe stop confusion with Series 3, Series 5 etc ... Mind you we now have A14.

:)

New 8th Gen iPad announced today
Talk about skimping on storage. 32 GB in a $330 tablet. I'd estimate that 32GB of SSD storage costs Apple about 5-7 dollars max, probably less in the quantities they buy. Then they charge you an extra $100 to upgrade to a more reasonable 128GB of storage. They don't say how much ram it has. Probably only 2-3 GB. Why does a 2 trillion dollar company have to short change it's customers while it pays no corporate taxes itself ? Makes no sense.

Here's the Lenovo M10 tablet with a 10" plus screen 8 core CPU and 4GB of ram and 128GB storage. Cost is $80 less than the entry level iPad shown above.

That tablet can't even compete with the previous generation of iPad Air... Those Apple designed SoCs are impressive. I don't think any of the Android tablets can compare.

Apple's prices for storage is ridiculous and always has been but I don't see these other tablets as alternatives.

Here are some Geekbench 4 comparisons.

Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus CPU scores are ~1000 single core and ~4500 multi core.
GPU score is 353.

iPad Air (3rd Generation) CPU scores are ~4800 single core and ~11500 multi core.
GPU score is ~20000.

For me personally, I don't buy a tablet for doing the things that make a higher GB score of value. I wouldn't be gaming, video or photo editing on one. I've got numerous desktops for that. I think that most tablet buyers don't either. So the higher prices for a tablet for basic use just seems way over-priced from my pt. of view. Those 3 year old A12 processors probably also cost Apple less than what Lenovo buys their 8 core cpu for. So in my estimation their prices are still too high for their lowest end entry level 8th gen iPad. I wouldn't pay the extra $180 for the iPad upgraded to 128GB.

Yes, then these iPads are not targeted towards you, but that Lenovo is also most definitely no competitor to the iPad Air that was introduced today. They are on completely different levels.

Other than bill of materials, the software, OS, and ecosystem need to be considered. Before hackintoshing, I happily paid thousands for Macs but never even considered purchasing a PC for hundreds. If bill of materials is the primary concern, I'd probably never purchase any Apple product.

I must say that Lightroom on an iPad works surprisingly well... Even on my 2015(?) iPad Air 2.
Bottleneck is the slow USB2, getting your photo's from your card takes ages.
So, 4 x faster, better screen, pen, hmm... I am tempted. The new Air has an USB-c connector, but I can't find any info on the speed.

Have you tried connecting to your macOS system via SMB to transfer files? It's probably a whole lot faster than USB2.

I bring my iPad(instead of my old & heavy MacBook Pro) with me on holidays, I shoot with a Canon 80D, then, after dinner, import to LR on my iPad via the sd card that I connect via the connection kit and a USB reader. So a SMB share is not applicable, and a USB3 connection would be great.

I just read the article. So basically you connect over wifi with a server. That's not very fast, is it? USB2 = 35 MB/s, can an iPad's WIFI keep up with this?
