Gigabyte Z490 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + i5-10400 + AMD RX 580

Hi @CaseySJ,

I'd like to report some findings and questions:
1. I flash the SPI ROM on GC Alpine Ridge ver 2.0 card, I did it successfully following #15307 in Z390 thread. Before the flash, I can't see the card at all in System Information. After flash, I can see it in System Information-Thunderbolt. But when I tried either Blackmagic mini recorder (recorder can be recognized under Thunderbolt but not able to record any thing) or a usbc flash drive or a usbc SD card reader, none of them work;

2. Then I follow #16293 in the Z390 thread to do the DROM magic. First, I tried BUS ID = 0, Slot number = 4 and RP21. Now I can see it under both 'PCI' and 'Thunderbolt', however mini recorder can't be seen; Then I tried BUS ID = 1, Slot number =4, and RP21; Now I can see the recorder under Thunderbolt and PCI but still unable to see the video.
usbc flash and USBC SD card reader still don't work, can't be recognized in the System Information.

I'm using Z490 with RX580, the on-board TB3 works great (I didn't flash the ROM). I plug in the Alpine ridge to the last PCIe slot. Could you give some advices on what steps I can try?

Thanks,

@CaseySJ Yes it only happens on Cold boot as you define it, when power to the power supply is turned off and then on again.

I also verify that port5 is activated. hotplug of blackmagic recorder works when BUS ID=1, slot =4, RP21.

Wonderful! If the new card works properly, I'll have to add a note to Post #1.

bad news: the card from FenviUS is causing the same power issues :( I tried a CMOS reset, NVRAM reset, reconfigured BIOS etc. Nothing...

I may delete the iGPU option because it causes too many problems. This means everyone will be required to have an AMD GPU...

Anyway, we need to switch you over to headless platform ID. This is easy to do in OpenCore Configurator. Just open your config.plist in OpenCore Configurator and go to the DeviceProperties section, then select the items shown:

Change your file to look like this. Then post a screenshot of the changes (before rebooting) so I can confirm.

Hi, again.

After your previous reply, I realised that I had made a fundamental error right from the start of my installation. I used 'config-Intel-GPU.plist' as the basis of my config.plist and not 'config-AMD-GPU.plist'. I mistakenly thought that this related to CPU and not GPU in use.

I have now edited and used 'config-AMD-GPU.plist' copying my Serial No etc from the previous file. As a result of that, the following problems have been overcome.

1) Photos is loading successfully.
2) I have been able to change the icon for my account successfully.
3) Safari is now loading and running successfully. I hope it was ok to re-install JAVA as part of the faultfinding I did.

Selecting Verbose Mode is still problematic. I have -v in my boot-args but no Verbose Mode displaying. What is the recommended way to reset NVRAM?

Also, now my problems are being resolved, I'm not sure if I still need to follow your recommendation about switching over to headless platform ID.

Thanks again for your assistance. This truly is a wonderful resource for Hackintoshers. Well done and keep up the good work. I'm sure I'll be in contact again soon but I guess that is what this site is all about.

Hi @CaseySJ,

Interesting: the camera setting somehow reset itself. I need to set 'HDMI display' out of the camera to HDMI only.
Then things work: real Macbook pro, Z490 on-board TB3 and Alpine Ridge card.

So TB3 seems fine.

But I still can't seem to get USB protocol on Alpine Ridge work: I can see it under 'PCI'

This is unfortunate. I have 6 of these working correctly since day 1.

I think you should contact Fenvi tech support and describe the problem with supporting screenshots, etc.
