AMD Radeon Navi GPU

Happens with me too. The login screen is 1920x1080 which is the “default for the display” resolution. However the monitor is 4K and i keep it set to Scaled->More Space which is the native 4K. The OS renders the UI at 8K though and scales it down to 4K.
Do you know how I would go about getting debug info for any of this? I've seen it work so clearly there is bug somewhere. I want to hunt it down if possible

I don't know as I have not been able to figure it out myself.

Hello.

Any information on radeon 5700xt Red Devil....
Need to replace my Radeon VII that got damage and using a Radeon Vega 64 for the time.
Found this Red Devil on nice price, question is how its behavior on Hackintosh especially on 10.15.5
Appreciate any info....

I am using one. No specific issues except ones that are affecting all NAVI gpus like the occasional WindowServer KPs. 10.15.5 appears to be much smoother though but, haven't spent much time using 10.15.5 yet so we will see how things behave. Overall it's been a great card and is very quiet, even when under full load gaming in Win10.

So over the weekend I've been testing the various SMBIOS' against the Sapphire reference 5700XT. I didn't run benchmarks because those all pull the same relative numbers. Instead I did some real life tests.

Anyone else test each SMBIOS? I am seeing exceptional performance with MacPro7,1 but pretty mixed results on iMac19,1 and iMacPro1,1. The iMac is the worst in FCPX taking the longest to encode and even navigate my projects.

Both iMac19,1 and iMacPro1,1 results in little beachballs even dragging the slider around my clips not to mention extended encode times.

Also, https://github.com/IOIIIO/MacProMemoryNotificationDisabler/issues/4 we are close to being able to dump WEG without having issues with the memory.

I always thought that most of the encoding process was not GPU bound.

@shampoo,

Correct .... almost all video editing apps such as FCPX, Premier, Da Vinchi ... etc will only use a dGPU for rendering tile based content on the time line such as effects and transitions they do not use the dGPU for transcoding. FCPX will use Intel Quick Sync or the T2 chip for basic H264 and H265 encoding but for all other formats including the Apple pro-res formats the transcoding is software based unless a specific hardware encoding accelerator card is installed such as a RED rocket card or Apples new Afterburner.

Cheers
Jay

Yes and no. FCPX 10.4.7 got support for multiple GPUs. While the GPU isn't exactly driving the rendering, it does help.

Start reading at: Macpro7,1

TLDR:

No matter with FCP X 10.4.6 or 10.4.7, it only takes 1 hour to finish the job.

It's 30mins faster than before.

And it's exactly the same hardware, the same operation system.

We just modified the model name from MacPro6,1 to MacPro7,1.

This mirrors my own finings and I'm convinced that MacPro SMBIOS will generate the best results. iMac and iMacPro both produce lacklustre results imo.

I got another KP today on 10.15.5 (before the security update). I was able to open up console as it would freeze for 8-10 seconds or so and then I could move my mouse for a second or two so I was able to take a look and noticed a few things.

There were several lines with "AMDRadeonAcclerator prodding blockFenceInterrupt" which occurred along side a bunch of lines alternating with "AMD Error" and "Timeout!". Not sure what to make of it but 10.15.5 definitely did not fix my KPs completely.

Another odd thing was after it finally completely locked up and rebooted my bios were all f’d up. I had to do a CMOS reset.

Hmmm, interesting. I experienced my first ever lock up in Sketch.app. Entire system froze. No recovery but to reboot. Nothing else was affected but 10.15.5 94+ is pretty flakey.

I'm on the 10.15.5 101. Want to try .6 beta 1 but the combo update blocks it. Apple software under Tim Cook... frustrating.
