[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Any natively supported PCIe graphics card. This applies to graphics cards whose drivers are entirely built into MacOS Mojave and supported by Apple. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: AMD RX 560, RX 570, RX 580, Vega 56, Vega 64, nVidia GTX 780, nVidia GTX 680, nVidia 8800 GT, nVidia GT 120, nVidia Quadro K5000.

Hi, I am having Z390 UD and RX 5700 XT
May I know is my graphic card supported by Apple for Catalina?
Also, can my motherboard be used for this build? :)
thank you!

Please do the following:
  • BIOS Setup --> Internal Graphics --> Enabled
  • ....
  • Reboot.

Thanx! That does the trick.
Please update your Howto.

Hello @jeremclink,
  • If you don't need a separate GPU then a 600W power supply will be more than sufficient.
  • The Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO air cooler should be just fine with i7-9700K.
  • If the TP-Link TL-WDN4800 works in your current Hackintosh then it can certainly be used in the new one.
  • The rear IO panel of the Designare supports:
    • HDMI 1.4b -- maximum of 4K at 30Hz
    • Thunderbolt Port 1 -- you may use a USB-C to DVI cable on this port
    • Thunderbolt Port 2 -- you may use a USB-C to DVI cable on this port
  • It's perfectly okay to install Mojave (10.14.3 or 10.14.6).
    • Latest UniBeast/MultiBeast will install Clover 5xxx (5107) so when you follow the guide in Post #1, just mentally replace drivers64UEFI with drivers/UEFI as you read the guide!
Having said this, I do not recommend using old monitors. They may or may not work. Even if the monitor works in current Hackintosh, you will be using a USB-C to DVI cable and a new Intel UHD 630 iGPU on the new system. You may or may not get the same results as you're getting now.

Thank you very much @CaseySJ for that, when i say "my system is actually under Mojave 10.14.3" i would like keep my ssd without starting from zero, maybe just update in Catalina with the new adjustments on multibeast / Clover, if possible !? Best regards .. Jeremy

Does the choppy sound happen only when streaming audio from the Internet or even when playing a locally stored music file?

It happens in both the cases.

Hello Everyone,
I am wanting to enable my machine for Thunderbolt devices, specifically UAD Apollo 6x or an Apollo Twin and want to understand if the *** Thunderbolt DROM Micro-Guide for Gigabyte Designare Z390 *** is the only process I need to follow. If so, it is also mentioned if If "System Information --> Thunderbolt says No drivers are loaded, then this does not apply to you." , does this mean I need to follow a different process?

There are several posts around this topic, and I thought I would see what would be the most appropriate place to start. I just performed a brand new install of Catalina in this thread, so I am just getting my machine going at this point.

Thanks for the help!
You don't have to do any firmware programming to use TB UAD stuff. 'No drivers are loaded' is fine, I don't see any drivers and last time I tried UAD TB stuff worked, at least when connected before boot.
Firmware programming is for people who want TB networking, eGPU's and more esoteric stuff.

I just have SSDT-Z390-DESIGNARE-TB3HP-V4 in Clover\ACPI\Patched and that does all I(and probably you) need
OK, to be clear on your reponses, I just need to follow the *** Thunderbolt DROM Micro-Guide for Gigabyte Designare Z390 *** guide, make my Thunderbolt entries in the SSDT shared file and insert into the Clover\ACPI\Patched directory?

Please ignore the Thunderbolt DROM guide. That procedure is only for those who flashed their Thunderbolt firmware with a hacked version to enable advanced Thunderbolt functionality.

Thunderbolt is already enabled on your Z390 Designare if you followed CaseySJ's installation guide for Catalina.
If correctly installed, the following should be true:
1. You have "SSDT-Z390-DESIGNARE-TB3HP-V4.aml" in your EFI under Clover\ACPI\Patched
2. You see two entries for GC-Titan Ridge in System Information > PCI
3. You see "Thunderbolt: No drivers are loaded" in System Information > Thunderbolt

According to @zipb your UAD Thunderbolt devices work on your system as it is, without the advanced Thunderbolt functionality. You may have to connect and power on the UAD devices before booting, if I read his reply to you correctly.

So, hook up your UAD devices and start playing!

Navi GPUs (RX 5600 and 5700) are supported, but we strongly recommend buying those that have standard (or reference) video ports. For the 5700 XT this means 3 DisplayPorts and 1 HDMI.

Avoid MSI 5700 XT cards for the time being.

Your motherboard “should” work with the Catalina Mini-Guide, but you will need to (a) remove the Thunderbolt SSDT, (b) modify the USB SSDT (SSDT-UIAC...) to reflect the USB ports on your board, and (c) remove the “NO-CNVW” SSDT.

Keep in mind, Thunderbolt items will not show up in the Thunderbolt section under "System Report". Items WILL show in the PCI section under "System Report". This causes quite a bit of confusion for folks. They think because nothing is showing under Thunderbolt, Thunderbolt isn't enabled, but through CaseySJ s great work it is enabled if you follow the build guide.

Greetings, I'm figuring out my first Hackintosh build. I was wondering something that might be unrelated to hackingtosh but it is quite relevant for me.

Since I use a dual LG ultrafine 4k setup for my MacBook Pro, I would love to keep using those monitors. The build in this thread supports TB3, but I wonder if my displays will be driven by my gpu when I use TB3 as the connection to my monitors. (I plan on using an RX 5700 XT if that matters). I know in laptops with a discrete gpu you can usually switch between the 2 but I don't know if this will work similarly in this setup.

Great guide so far to get me all warmed up for my first hackintosh project!

It may be a good idea to keep that patch intact for a few days and then observe the behavior without it. We recommend the attached SSDT instead of that patch. As mentioned in a previous reply, this can be copied to CLOVER/ACPI/patched.
I removed the 300-Series RTC patch and added the attached 0-SSDT-RTC0.aml file. Sleep has now worked perfectly for 2 days. ( Clover 5112 )
