[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hi is the Radeon VII simpler/more like the Vega 64 to make work?

@CaseySJ my answers with the working attached EFI folder is pending moderator approval.

Why this keeps happening ?

Yes, the Radeon VII is simpler, but if you wait for 10.15.2, even the 5700-series might become easy (or easier).

The Rules prohibit discussion of "vanilla" guides, so if your folder was created with such a guide, it might violate the rules. Also, discussion of developer betas is not allowed.

However, let me see if these are the key points:
  • Perform installation with iGPU only.
    • As I understand, the macOS 10.15.1 installer is not compatible with RX 5700-series.
  • Then in order to install RX 5700 XT as a post-installation step, remove WhateverGreen and "agdpmod=pikera", but wait for 10.15.2?

Ah ok, I'll try to avoid those sensible points, but you can see my last post with the answers and the EFI? I'll post it again here for the common people editing some parts:

Answers in red
  • Does the solution require 10.15.2? I don't think so but we need to test, I was already in the 10.15.2 because I was desperate trying everything, so it wasn't working the same way 10.15.1 didn't, it worked after I pasted the "other" EFI folder, NOT when I updated to the beta. Now I'm afraid to do a clean install, I think I'm going to stay in this version for a while

  • Did you perform the macOS installation itself with only iGPU or with RX 5700 XT? No, I did the install process with a Vega64 because when I tried to boot with only iGPU I had the black screen problem (I was trying to install the first "fresh 10.15.1" install, since then you made some adjustments that I didn't try), so i just plugged my Vega64 and even with the iGPU plist it worked.

  • Just to be sure: Does your EFI folder allow macOS to actually be installed with RX 5700 XT? No idea, I posted my modified working EFI here without the serial numbers. ATTENTION for everyone trying to use this, you should open it in Clover configurator and populate your numbers before using it.
New questions with answers:
  • Perform installation with iGPU only. I can't confirm cause I made it with my Vega64, but I'll test it, I'm going to make a backup of my current install first then I'll try to make a fresh 10.15.1 install.
  • Then in order to install RX 5700 XT, remove WhateverGreen and "agdpmod=pikera", but wait for 10.15.2? I don't think that is the 10.15.2 that made the difference, I had the same frozen boot state as 10.15.1 when I updated it, I could only pass this freezing problem after I pasted the "other" EFI, THEN I got the black screen that I fixed removing WEG. I'll let you know what happens with my fresh 10.15.1 install.
Either way I'm attaching the current working modified EFI folder that I'm using. Can you take a look and see what could be the problem?

@CaseySJ doing the iGPU install method again didn’t get the panic this time but getting stuck on this screen with Apple logo stuck before GUI installer boot I guess it’s a step in the right direction lol

Can’t be seen in the photo well but loading bar is like purplish and mouse is stuck in corner

Also updated to F8 Bios and followed F8 Bios setup from post #1

I also moved fenvi card to lowest short pci slot

I’ve also tried usbc to DP into monitor and HDMI to monitor

made sure SMBIOS was 19,1 with serial that is not currently active and put MLB info in RT variable section.

Hey All,

I am working on a build with a friend (9900k/designare/msi 5700 XT)

Can confirm we were able to install Catalina with internal graphics per Casey's guide. However, we are still hung up on gIOScreenLockState 3 as @SpikedBR was before he implemented his new work flow.

Looking forward to getting further details on that build and getting our machine up and running!

@CaseySJ Tried the latest guide to make a new 10.15.1 iGPU fresh install but it’s not working here, I get a black screen when I try to boot the “Install Catalina” from the USB stick. It looks like the same problem that I had booting my 10.15.2 Beta system, but this time disabling WEG didn’t work.

Maybe there is a difference in 10.15.2 after all...

The only positive thing is that I can boot the USB stick with the Os something and Fw something APTIO drivers instead of the 2000 one.

I plugged in my Vega64 again and it booted and now I’m installing 10.15.1 again. I’ll keep you guys updated.

@CaseySJ wanted to post some thanks! I used your guide for a fresh Mojave build and everything went extremely smoothly.

What is the difference between the SSDT for your case and the one for the R6? I have the R6 USB-C case and I'm using your original one, everything is fine except for front USB 2.0 since the BT is plugged in there.

@SpikedBR would you be able to point me in the direction of the source of your working EFI? Or, tell me what to search to find where you found? :)
