[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Sadly it didn't work, hanging in the same spot.

Tried a couple of new things:
  • Moved the 5700xt to the second PCI slot and updated the BIOS
  • Tried the 10.15.2 Beta 4 (released yesterday)
Nothing worked hahahahha
When the RX 5700 is installed, we must add agdpmod=pikera to Boot Arguments.

Now that my new OS has been installed with iGPU, I'm about to install the RX 5700 XT...

Hello,
I followed the installation but I forgot a detail concerning the HDMI port which does not seem more apparent. I do not have a graphics card. Now I have the screen, impossible to do anything. I can not access anything. What should I do ?
Please help, i'm a debutant.

My Configuration :
intel i7 9700K
Z390 designare

Thank you in advance,
baptist

Thank you for the video.
  • I am once again installing Catalina from scratch using only the iGPU.
  • No problem starting the installer (second time today with no problem).
  • Currently showing 8 minutes remaining.
Please compress and upload the CLOVER folder from your USB install disk.

EDIT: Installation successful yet again (no RX 5700; only iGPU with HDMI 2.0 cable).

Perhaps we cannot trust this...it shows 60Hz from onboard HDMI whereas the motherboard spec is 30Hz max at 4K.

I’m going try again using iGPU following the instructions should I be on any specific BIOS? Currently on F6
If you’ve been able to get thru twice today, I’m unsure what I am doing incorrect.

I'm going to give it another shot. Have you found anything that should be adjusted from original walk thru?

Some notes:
  • I'm installing Catalina 10.15.1 (not a 10.15.2 beta).
  • I created the USB install disk by following the Catalina Mini-Guide.
  • Then I replaced config.plist with config-Internal-GPU.plist(from post #10821).
    • In Clover Configurator, I filled in the SMBIOS section with iMac19,1 from pop-up menu.
    • Renamed the file to simply config.plist
  • The RX 5700 was physically removed from the system. Be sure to fully power down (including flipping power switch on PSU to OFF) before removing the GPU.
  • In BIOS, IGFX --> Enabled
  • In BIOS, Initial Display Output --> IGFX
  • Be sure to press F12 every time to boot from the USB install disk.
  • Then at the Clover Boot Menu, be sure to select the correct disk volume each time. This is explained in the Catalina Mini Guide.

Alright I’ll give it another go. And I will mention I am installing 10.15.1 no beta software. Do you recommend any specific BIOS version? I’m on F6 should I consider F7?

F6, F7, and F8 should all be okay. I'm on F8.

Guys check this out

FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! HEELLLLLL YEAHHHH ! :headbang:

After 3 days of intense trial and error my Asus 5700 XT Blower is working in macOS 10.15.2 Beta 4 WITHOUT Whatevergreen and pikera flags.

THE PROBLEM
Just to remind, my problem was that I couldn't boot with the 5700xt installed, it froze after a gIOScreenLockState 3 (this msg actually is not a problem I think because I got it with my Vega64 as well and it booted flawlessly). I had this problem with all the guides posted here, in 10.15.1 and 10.15.2 Beta 4.

THE INITIAL SOLUTION
I really want to share with you guys how "I" did, but there is a problem, I used a EFI folder from another hackintosh site and I don't know if I can post the link here. Can I? Already had a post marked for moderation yesterday and I really want to give credits to the creator.

Anyway, I just pasted his entire EFI folder in to my main boot disk and for the first time it didn't froze but I got a black screen, then I read in that another site someone saying that the whatevergreen wasn't required for 5700xt, then I blocked it in clover and vualá, it worked.

TUNING
Even though the EFI was made for the z390 designare, he didn't considered the fenvi card, the 5700xt and some other minors tweaks I guess because bluetooth wasn't working, my MX Master mouse was performing strangely with some jumps and I realized that he was using iMacPro1,1 definition.

So I began to transform this "other" EFI folder into the last EFI posted here by @CaseySJ, folder by folder cause I'm a complete noob so I just copy and paste . I'm going to list what I did so far:
  1. Deleted everything from ACPI>Patched and pasted CaseySJ's. SUCESS
  2. Same for drivers>EFI. FAILED "ERROR allocating..." 3 lines error, probably because of the OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000.efi, the "other" EFI uses that, and the new CaseySJ uses OcQuirks-4.efi and FwRuntimeServices.efi. Reverted the the "other" EFI folder.
  3. Same for kext>other. PARTIAL SUCESS I had to remove the Whatevergreen because it gave me blank screen.
  4. Changed SMBIOS from iMacPro1,1 to iMac19,1, marked Trust and pasted Board Serial number in Rt Variable MLB. SUCESS
The bluetooth is working again and my mouse is working properly, now I'm going to setup iCloud and make a backup.

+INFO
  • BIOS F8
  • MacOS 10.15.2 Beta 4 (19C56a)
  • Asus 5700xt Blower, installed in the PCI Slot 1
  • iMac19,1 SMBIOS definition
  • NO WEG
  • Fenvi board on the last shot pci slot.
  • Sleep works.
  • I used a Vega64 for the install process, so I can't say if the 5700xt works in the install process (probably not).
  • I was desperate already, trying everything that is why I had the beta MacOS installed. I don't know if it works with the released 10.15.1.

Do you guy want me to make any test?

@CaseySJ should I make the headless mode thing? What are the advantages?

I've just installed Catalina successfully using only the iGPU, as follows:

Phase 1:
  • Start with the USB install disk you created by following the Catalina Mini-Guide.
  • Connect it to your Mac.
  • Now, in the ZIP attached below there are two config.plist files:
    • config-Internal-GPU.plist
    • config-AMD-GPU.plist
  • We will perform the installation with the Internal file and then switch to the AMD-GPU file later.
  • Copy config-Internal-GPU.plist to the CLOVER folder of the USB install disk.
  • Open the file with Clover Configurator, go to SMBIOS section, and select iMac19,1 from the pop-up menu.
  • Save the file and then rename it to simply config.plist.
Phase 2:
  • Power down, flip power switch on PSU to OFF, then completely remove the RX 5700 XT GPU from the system.
    • Don't skip any one of these steps.
  • Connect HDMI cable to rear IO panel and to your monitor.
    • Don't use a TV. Use a computer monitor.
  • Power up the system and press Del to enter BIOS Setup.
    • Change Initial Display Output to IGFX.
    • Save and quit.
  • Press F12 at BIOS Splash Screen to open BIOS Boot Menu.
    • Select the USB install disk.
  • At the Clover Boot Menu, select the leftmost icon (the external USB disk).
  • Follow the on-screen progress.
  • When the installer starts, run Disk Utility and format the target disk as APFS, select the Scheme as GUID Partition Map, and give it the name Catalina
    • You must select View --> Show All Devices... and click on the parent name of your target macOS SSD. Then click Erase and you will see three options: Name, Format, and Scheme.
  • Then quit Disk Utility and select the option to Install macOS.
  • When the system reboots, make sure to press F12 at BIOS Splash Screen.
    • Select the USB install disk.
  • At the Clover Boot Menu, select Boot macOS Install from macOS Catalina
    • NOTE: We will NOT select the USB install disk in Clover Boot Menu any longer. We will still use the USB disk to boot the system because only the USB disk contains the EFI partition that allows computer to boot.
  • The macOS installer should automatically resume and take 15-30 minutes.
  • When it reboots, press F12 again and select the USB install disk.
  • At the Clover Boot Menu, select Boot macOS from macOS Catalina
    • Now you will be greeted with the Welcome screen.
    • Follow the wizard. You can login to iCloud or do it later.
  • When you're at the desktop, run Clover Configurator to Mount EFI partitions of both the USB install disk and the new Catalina SSD.
    • Copy the entire EFI Folder from EFI partition of USB disk to EFI partition of Catalina SSD.
  • Eject the USB install disk.
  • Reboot and see if Catalina starts up.
Phase 3: Prepare to install RX 5700 XT.
  • (Steps to be provided later.)
  • Do not do this yet.
  • Please report your progress with Phases 1 and 2.

Voodoo Science: For some reason System Information --> Graphics/Displays is showing 4K at 60Hz when connecting my Asus Designo 4K monitor to the on-board HDMI port. This port should not support 60Hz. I'll post screenshot later this evening if I can prove to myself that I wasn't hallucinating. Maybe it's a bug in 10.15.1, but the screen did not flicker when moving windows around as it does at 30Hz. Anyway, this could just be a mistake on my part. But if the 3 of you have 4K monitors, see if you also get 60Hz.

Thanks Casey! I followed Phase 1 and 2 and was able to finish the install. I can reboot as well. I'll now try installing the 5700 XT and see where we get.

Finally someone succeeds with iGPU!! Good job. :)

Switching over to the RX 5700 XT will be tricky. It may be better to wait for 10.15.2 or follow parts of @SpikedBR's experience above.

@SpikedBR

Good work!!
  • Does the solution require 10.15.2 Beta?
  • Did you perform the macOS installation itself with only iGPU or with RX 5700 XT?
    • Update: Saw your edited post: You used a Vega for the installation.
  • Because you've customized the EFI folder, it's okay to post it here with your serial numbers removed from SMBIOS and RtVariables.
    • Just to be sure: Does your EFI folder allow macOS to actually be installed with RX 5700 XT?
