[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Hello @jrebergen,

Thanks for the time you took to compare our config !

I cannot agree more than this to all you said and I already had made those changes before your reply with the latest discoveries I made. Let me show you the screenshot of my folders right now, my config.plist hasnt changed since.

I have everything running smooth too, I removed the -v argument cause I hadnt got any boot error neither shutdown error. Even my issue with going out of sleepmode seems to be fixed.
The only remaining thing I could not make work despite @CaseySJ answer is Unlock with my apple watch, but it is definitely not such of a big deal. With virtualSMC I don't have my fan speed on iStatMenu neither my GPU temp but I can live without it.

Tell me if you decide to try my files to see if that works for you, but if your hackintosh is working fine then no need to change anything for sure !
And that's the most important part, a smooth running hackintosh! I can't help you with the Apple Watch, I've not yet bought one.
Regarding iStat, mine doesn't give fan speeds either. This is because of iStat and not your machine. I use multiple programs to give me an overview of my Hack's health status; FakeSMC's HWMonitorSMC2 does a great job, Apple's own Activity Monitor is also great (⌘2, ⌘3 and ⌘4) and I use CleanMyMac which also gives me some numbers. Between them (number don't always seem to be the same) I get a good indication of my machine.

Is this happening on your Z370 Gaming 7 with an add-in GC-Titan Ridge or GC-Alpine Ridge card?

Let's start by doing the following:
  • Perform soft CMOS reset by shutting down the system and flipping power switching on power supply to OFF position for 10 seconds. Then flip it back to ON.
  • Check/confirm BIOS --> Thunderbolt settings.
  • Unplug and replug the Thunderbolt cable to the Thunderbolt device(s) while computer is booted into macOS.
  • CLOVER/ACPI/patched folder --> check that all SSDTs are present.
  • System Information --> PCI page : check whether Thunderbolt NHI and Thunderbolt USB Controller are listed.
  • IORegistryExplorer --> File --> Save As... and upload the saved file.
Sorry, I hadn't updated my profile yet. I'm using the z390 Designare and i9 9900k. I should also mention my Thunderbolt audio interface is working, just not my type c USB hub.

If you are connecting USB 2.x devices to the two on-board USB-C ports, those devices will not work because we've intentionally disabled USB 2 (on HS08 and HS13) to avoid exceeding the 15-port limit of macOS. Devices like the 2018 iPad Pro that contain a USB-C port can ship with USB 2 charging/data cables, so in many cases simply purchasing a proper USB-C cable that supports USB 3 should allow these devices to work.

No problem — here’s a checklist:
  • Disable IGFX in BIOS.
  • Delete the entire section in “Clover Configurator —> Devices —> Properties” related to configuring the IGPU.
  • Everything in “Clover Configurator —> Graphics” should be unchecked or empty.
  • In SMBIOS, choose “iMacPro1,1”. You may be able to reuse existing serial numbers. If you use new numbers, your applications and plug-ins may need to be re-licensed.

Is it recommended to sign out of iCloud when doing this type of change (if keeping the same serial numbers)?

So I posted a while ago about my build but have been pretty busy but finally got a stable rig. I had done a few installs due to some hardware swaps and CCC has been invaluable for other issues. However, I think I have a pretty stable machine now and overall very happy! It has taken quite a bit of reading up on the forums and a lot of tinkering.

Here is my build:
i9-9700k
Gigabyte Z390 Designare
32gb Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200mhz (clocked down to 2666mhz to help with sleep issues)
Samsung 970 EVO SSD (primary)
Intel 660p 2TB SSD (secondary)
WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB SSD (windows)
MSI VGA RX 580 Armor 8GB OC
Corsair RM750x Gold PSU

I had a lot of issues with sleep/wake as I was testing but it finally stabilized out with clocking down the memory speed as discovered recently. I have reliable sleep/wake with one keystroke to wake and no darkwake.

I also got pretty scared of the whole free2000 memory issue and didn't want the possibility of bricking my system (though it seems like it's a pretty unlikely event), so I was happy to finally figure out that I could get AptioMemoryFix.efi working with the Mac19,1 setting and iGPU enabled (with VirtualSMC). I didn't want to do another install to change the system ID, though I know I could probably get away with keeping the same serial numbers and simply switching the ID to MacPro1,1 in SMBIOS.

Thanks again to @CaseySJ for his tireless efforts - I still can't believe how much time you put into the forums and it is much appreciated!

I will do some more testing, but if lowering RAM speed fixes sleep and eject... That's simply baffling. I also got rid of darkwake=0. Let's see what happens. I had no problems sleeping my rig last night.
Did you set darkwake=0 or delete the darkwake entry?

What Thunderbolt audio interface are you using?

External Disks Not Ejected During Sleep
External hard drives are not always ejected prior to Sleep. This is a fairly common problem that afflicts regular Macs as well. At one point I left the computer idle for 90 minutes, and returned to a chorus of 30 "disk not ejected" warnings upon wake. Fortunately a little utility called Jettison solves this problem. There's a 15-day trial period and the price is USD $4.95. Once installed, it will automatically eject all external disks. You can manually choose "eject and sleep" from Jettison's own menu, but that is purely optional.

The issue with me is that Jettison won't remount the USB disks. The USB disks can't even be found in terminal without physically removing and Reinserting them (which make me think it's a Gigabyte UEFI issue).

Was Jettison able to remount for you? Were you able to see the USB disks in terminal?

If your results are the same as mine, Jettison only fixes half the problem (other free scripts do the same). It will eject to protect the drives from possible corruption, but that's it. USB ports will still suffer constant replugging.

BTW, Jettison can remount on my system, again if memory is set to 2666 MHz.

Besides fully testing thunderbolt (I was planning on an Antelope audio interface but perhaps that isn't possible so I might have to go UAD), this is my main gripe I've obssed over for almost 2 weeks lol.

Anyhow, depending on your findings, perhaps the guide should be updated as well for the note on Jettison? Someone could buy the plug-in and be disappointed.

Unless I'm wrong.. Which I hope I am!
Thanks.

Hello good people.

First off, thanks a lot for this guide, this community has been a big help for me.

I have followed the guide and “gone the extra mile” and switched to a headless platform I.D.
Everything seems to work beautifully, except one thing.

I have a problem with my UAD Apollo Twin Duo Mk1, connected via Apple TB3-TB2 adapter.
I cant’t record audio into my DAW (Ableton Live, Pro Tools). The inputs are not responding.
There is sound from the speakers, and audio coming into the Apollo mix console, but there is no audio being send
to my inputs in my DAW.
I have tested the cable and the soundcard on my MacBook Pro and everything works.

Any suggestions?
