[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

** Final Cut Pro Users **

We're looking for some volunteers to run the updated BruceX benchmark in Ryan's post here:

Did a quick test:
Intel Core i9 9900K
64GB memory
Samsung NVME 970 Plus 1TB
Radeon RX Vega 56 8 GB

export ProRes422
4K: 16 sec
8K: 1.06 minutes

Almost no CPU and Graphics card load.
The Graphics card has 100% memory load..

I'm not entirely sure what you mean when talking about the override but I hope it doesn't mean anything wrong for making the display to work at 5k on a hackintosh haha
I just wanted to say that the override files exist in macOS. I don't know why they exist. It seems to me the EDIDs from the displays should be sufficient. I guess I should compare the override EDIDs with the real EDIDs to see what Apple thought needed to be changed. For the newer displays 5b74 and 5b7b, the overrides don't exist in Mojave 10.14.3 but do exist in Mojave 10.14.6. The override files also include an icon for macOS to show for the display.

I'm just talking with a couple of people in another forum that got the new 2019 LG 5k + Designare, hopefully we can find out more info.

I've also found a guide in another website that confirms that Titan/Alpine cards working ok with Z370 + 5k display. I've asked the author to run the command to check if it's outputting 5k. Not posting the link so I don't get the post erased and have to write it all over again.

I’ve got confirmation that the new 2019 Lg ultrafine 5K is not working at 5K with Designare. Hopefully I can get the txt to find out what’s doing in with the new display.

RE: PCIe SATA card compatibility

I brought over a HighPoint RocketRAID 644L (Port Multiplier RAID) to my Z390 Designare build with no issues, it immediately saw my RAID 5 enclosure and files.
Apple includes the driver in the OS (you can see the Highpoint files in L/E)

I recently switched it to a 642L so I could get two internal SATA ports.

You just pointed us to 2 very good peripherals:
  • A 3-pole umbilical antenna. I’ll purchase one myself! [update: order placed]
  • A PCIe x4 SATA card with Mac compatibility. In the build guide you will see that the suggested SATA cards are all x1, so I’ll add this to the list.
Thanks again CaseySJ. I got my parts and the umbilical is making a huge difference in my connection. The SATA card works great so I am returning my 4 port one. You are truly the best!

Reporting in with success:
  • Fractal Design R6-USB-C (tempered glass, black)
  • Seasonic Focus Plus 850 Platinum
  • Z390 Designare
  • i9-9900k
  • Sapphire Radeon Nitro+ RX Vega 64
  • G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Model F4-3200C16Q-32GTZR
  • Fenvi T919 (did not disable the Intel CNVi in BIOS, did disable it in Windows Device Manager)
  • Syba SY-PEX30016 3 Port Firewire 1394B & 1394A PCIex1 (pilfered from my last Hackintosh build, 4.5 years ago)
  • 2x Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD (one each for Windows and Mojave boot)
  • 2x Seagate BarraCuda 3TB 3.5 Inch SATA 6 7200 RPM 64MB Cache (one each for Windows and Mojave user data)
  • CoolerMaster Liquid ML240R CPU cooler
  • 3x Antec Prism 120mm ARGB fans
  • 2x BenQ GW2765HT 27" IPS 2560 x 1440p Monitor (already had these from my last Hackintosh build)
Installed the Windows 10 M.2 in the first slot (closest to CPU). Install was fast and smooth, including the 'hack' to relocate user folder to user data drive during pre-install. Only hiccup was on initial boot the Intel CNVi was intermittent and I had virtually useless connectivity. Downloaded an updated driver from the Intel website, rebooted and everything was aces. Installed about 150GB worth of apps and games. Spent most of Saturday playing Hitman 2 on "ultra" with no problems, no overheating and the fans never getting to 100%. Very quiet system under load.

Installed the Mojave M.2 in the second slot (farthest from CPU), connected the Mojave user data drive. Followed along with the guide in Post 1. First pass failed with "this platform is not supported" error. I went back through the entire config.plist (via Clover on an old iMac 27" I have laying around) and discovered I missed a checkbox and hadn't changed CsrActiveConfig. Fixed that and the second attempt went super smooth. No EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY issues or any other hangups. Presently in the midst of installing all my Adobe CC and audio (Cubase, Live, NI Komplete 12 CE, a metric tonne of VSTs, etc.) which will likely take a while. I may fire up a game of Civ VI while I wait. I believe all of the USB ports are working, too; don't have anything Thunderbolt to try those with...yet. ;)

I did configure the BIOS to boot from the Mojave UEFI Sabrent first. Have rebooted maybe a dozen times into Windows and Mojave and zero issues with anything.

Thanks for the easy to follow guide; very much appreciated!

edit: Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 is working flawlessly via FW

Glad to hear it! I am already seeing a 10 dBm or 10x increase in signal strength as reported here.

@jrhillma, the sweet sound of success! Thank you for the write up.

I am having a huge problem creating an UniBeast installer for Mojave, using UniBeast 9.1. I, however, downloaded the UniBeast installer for macOs High Sierra, and it worked flawlessly.

Any suggestions? I really want get this in the log file:
