[SUCCESS] Gigabyte Designare Z390 (Thunderbolt 3) + i7-9700K + AMD RX 580

Couple of quick suggestions:
  • Ensure there are no other Aptio memory fix drivers in the the drivers64UEFI folder.
  • Shutdown the system and flip power switch on power supply for 10 seconds. Then try booting up.

The power switch flip does not help. drivers64UEFI is clean - I only have the following in it.

ApfsDriverLoader-64.efi
HFSPlus-64.efi
AudioDxe-64.efi
DataHubDxe-64.efi
OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000.efi
EmuVariableUefi-64.efi
VirtualSmc.efi
FSInject-64.efi

I'll try later to investigate further but just out of curiosity what version are you on for clover ?

Thanks for help

Note that 4988 changed the directory where drivers are stored. Check your EFI folder to make sure all drivers are in the new driver/UEFI directory. That may be your issue.

That was it !!
Thank you for help. I moved the OsxAptioFix2Drv-free2000.efi from drivers64UEFI to the new driver/UEFI and it booted successfully. I deleted the old drivers64UEFI directory. Thanks again @manHands

There's not one word I don't like about this. Still though, a few comments:
  1. Why X99? It's kind of difficult and unpredictable in certain aspects.. X299 is easier and more potentially powerful.
  2. Even so, if you decide to continue with this idea. I can help you out and I'd be glad to. I have ALL my historic EFI folders for X99 and still have my GA-X99 Ultra Gaming and 6850K for testing purposes.
  3. Wouldn't you prefer a Threadripper build based on linux VM as an alternative to the new Mac Pro?
All amazing projects anyway.. :headbang:

P.D: Will you promisse not to abandon this thread and build though? Hahah, at least until I finish paying for my DESIGNARE and 9900K..
P.D 2: A time ago you asked about KGP. You mentioned private mail, right? Where?

Cheers!
Thanks CaseySJ. My Asus X99 built was based on KGP guide, my very first Hackintosh really.. Still on 10.12.6 as I found myself having difficulty to follow KGP's subsequent 10.13.6 guide, largely due to my own inexperience. I was hoping to find an easier guide to follow.
Hello from my new Asus X99 Deluxe II Hackintosh!!
  • Asus X99 Deluxe II motherboard with 40 PCIe lanes
  • 2 PCIe 2.0 slots and 4 PCIe 3.0 slots
  • Mojave 10.14.5
  • Broadwell-E Intel i7-6850K 6-core 12-thread CPU
  • PowerColor Red Dragon RX 580 8GB
    • Repurposed from a little-used mining rig
  • EVGA SuperNova 850W power supply
    • Repurposed from a little-used mining rig
  • Built-in Broadcom Wireless AC module! Yes, Broadcom built-in. But no Bluetooth... Update: Both WiFi and BT are working.
  • Noctua CPU cooler with Noctua fan -- wow is it quiet!
  • Silicon Power 256GB SATA SSD.
  • Quad-channel -- yes, quad-channel -- memory with 4x4 GB DDR4 2133MHz DIMMs
    • Repurposed from a little-used mining rig
  • Both ARGB and RGB headers. I might go RGB crazy again!
  • Cougar Gemini-T ATX case with front panel USB-C connector and RGB highlights
    • It's a lower-cost version of the Phanteks Evolv X. Can't believe how much I like it. Delightful to build in.
The motherboard, CPU, Noctua cooler, and Asus ThunderboltEX 3 were purchased used in a single bundle.

Thanks to KGP's X99 build guide.

MacOS installation was a bit tricky, but with the help of Clover's F4 ACPI dump feature it was relatively easy to figure out what ACPI renames were needed. But it took about 5 hours to overcome a handful of early issues. Even though I patched the BIOS on Windows and attempted to patch the MSR 0xE2 register, the patched BIOS was not accepted by the motherboard. So I'm running the latest stock BIOS v1902 with KernelPM flag enabled.

On the hardware side there was, alas, an incident. A SATA power cable electrically shorted the pins on a 256GB SSD causing a puff of white smoke. Fortunately only the SSD got fried (literally), but I had an extra one for quick replacement. (Just $30 so not too bad of a loss.)

This completes Phase 1 of the experiment. Don't want to discuss phase 2 yet because the best laid plans of mice and men may never materialize... :) In the meantime I can offer rudimentary assistance to anyone facing (equally rudimentary) issues on their X99 Hacks.

Edit: Fan speeds and component voltages by default with FakeSMC and iStat menus!

Clover Configurator --> Boot --> Boot Arguments --> Click the "+" on the lower right side of the boot arguments list. Then type "uia_exclude=HS12" in the new line that opens.

Now it finally goes to sleep in OSX, success.

Still hopeful for an Asus X99 Deluxe II golden build :)

Hello,

Congratulations for your new build Casey !!

From my part , I manage to screw up everything this morning : (

Tried to install Catalina beta on my main NVMe Disk and the install stopped suddenly with a kernel panic.

Now, if I try to boot with this disk, or anything else ( CarbonCopyCloned external USB Backup copy with EFI , CCC Internal SATA SSD clone and even the original USB install Key ) I get stuck with the same contact panic.apple.com message.

Thanks for your help !

Yo @Yobuild! Managed to screw up indeed! :) Don't feel too bad; here's my screw up from yesterday:
IMG_0213.jpg

Are you saying that after the aborted Catalina install, you tried to fully restore a working clone of Mojave from your backup disk to the internal SATA SSD (including the EFI Partition)? And the kernel panic continues to occur?

During BIOS splash screen, press F12 and make sure the computer is booting from the correct drive.

Made a lot more progress so far today (on Asus X99 Deluxe II experimental system):
  • Dual-installed Windows and updated firmware on the ThunderboltEX 3 card.
  • Modified the Thunderbolt hot-plug SSDT for PCI0.BR1A.
  • Created custom USB SSDT.
  • Added SmallTree kext for the Intel i211 Ethernet port.
  • Signed in to iCloud (FaceTime, Messages, etc. are all okay).
Only things not working:
  • Wake from sleep (sleep itself is okay).
  • Bluetooth. The on-board Broadcom Azurewave device may simply not be compatible.
EDIT: Bluetooth and all Continuity functions (AirDrop, Handoff, Continuity Camera, etc.) are working. Needed to install:
  • AirportBrcmFixup.kext (a Lilu plug-in by acidanthera)
  • BrcmPatchRAM2.kext (RehabMan)
  • BrcmFirmwareRepo.kext (for /Library/Extensions) or BrcmFirmwareData.kext (for CLOVER/kexts/Other)

@CaseySJ,

Are you having issues with Preview and Quick View opening jpegs? It has something to do with iGPU, Lilu and Whatevergreen... I'm really unclear about it. Plus I'm having Reboot on Shutdown.

WoW, so not the best day for both of us :) , but the Deluxe II is there !

Thanks for your answer!

Sorry, I will try to be clearer.

The system was on the NVMe disk , where I tried to install Catalina.
I had 2 backups/clones just in case , 1 on the internal SATA SSD and 1 on an external disk (wich was not plugged in during the aborted install ).

I’d like to restore the NVMe disk with one of the backups but I cant reboot with any disk anymore.
Same panic occurs every time. Same thing when I try the USB key used for first install.

When I press F12 and select any drive in the BIOS first , unfortunately the same panic occurs.

So I’m stuck with the kernel and cant access anything else than the bios and clover boot options for now !

I dont have Windows system installed. I hope we could find a solution without it.

Again, thanks a lot for your help !
